Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) hasn't allowed Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) to sabotage his busing of illegal migrants to The Windy City after the Texas governor found a new way to circumvent a recent order from Mayor Johnson that attempted to halt the busing of illegal migrants. The busing ordinance enacted by Johnson put restrictions on the number of buses arriving per hour, leading Abbott to find an inventive way to get around the rule.
Over the weekend, the state of Texas flew hundreds of migrants, around 350, from San Antonio to Rockford, Illinois, a non-sanctuary city west of Chicago. The migrants were then put onto buses en route to Chicago; however, several migrants were dropped off in suburbs along the route, as reported by Breitbart. The plan was announced by Abbott last month, with the Texas governor explaining, "Sanctuary city Chicago started obstructing and targeting our busing mission. Texas will now expand our operation to include flights to Chicago. Until Biden steps up to secure the border, we will continue to provide overwhelmed Texas border towns with much-needed relief."
The city of Rockford announced that they were told about the plane's arrival before it arrived at around 1 a.m. on Sunday. "As many people may know, the City of Chicago recently adopted an ordinance with certain requirements related to the arrival of migrants," a statement from the city of Rockford said, per WGN9. "As a result, the governor of Texas has redirected buses and planes to other nearby cities."
In response to the brilliant workaround, Mayor Johnson slammed the governor for the continued flow of hundreds of migrants to the Windy City as thousands cross the Rio Grande into Texas every day. "This morning, just after 1 a.m., a private Boeing 777 originating from San Antonio, Texas, landed at the Rockford/Chicago airport carrying 350 asylum seekers. There was no communication from Texas, and the City of Chicago was alerted by authorities in Rockford regarding the flight," Johnson wrote. "Upon landing, asylum seekers were placed on buses chartered by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and dropped in various surrounding suburbs, left to find their way to the city. This is the second recorded instance of the Texas governor transporting asylum seekers via private plane."
Abbott's busing program began in 2022 and has led to thousands of migrants being bused to several Democrat-run sanctuary cities across the country. By November, the governor had sent over 12,500 to Washington, D.C., over 22,600 to New York City, over 18,000 to Chicago, over 3,200 to Philadelphia, over 5,700 to Denver, and over 1,100 to Los Angeles.
