Texas Smokehouse Patron Uses His Second Amendment Right, Shoots 'Violent Maniac' That Attacked Elderly Man And Himself

At Woody's Smokehouse in Centerville, Texas, shots rang out during the lunch rush on August 14th. An unidentified good samaritan intervened in the brutal violent assault of an elderly man and after being attacked by the assailant himself, fired two shots at him before the attacker fled.

According to a press release via Facebook from the Leon County Sheriff's Office, they received a 911 call from Woody's Smokehouse in Centerville about shots being fired inside shortly after noon. Deputies and Texas DPS Troopers responded to find out that a man, Kevin Craig Anderson of Houston, had just fled.

Turning to surveillance footage, authorities found that Anderson had entered the business minutes before and began harassing people.

He, "aggressively approached several customers inside the store and then proceeded to walk into the restroom."

The officers would find that inside the restroom, Anderson had assaulted an "elderly male," knocking him unconscious only to continue assaulting him on the tile floor.

The video then showed a good samaritan armed with a pistol attempting to intervene in the savage beating of the man. He was then assaulted in turn by Anderson who reportedly knocked him to the floor and continued to assault him. The intervening good samaritan then drew his pistol and fired two rounds at Anderson striking him once in the right arm. The assailant then fled the scene in his vehicle.

According to the Sheriff's Department,

"Kevin Anderson was located parked on the shoulder of IH-45, near the 174 mile-marker. He was transported by helicopter to St. Joseph E.R. in Bryan and then later transported to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston to be treated for his injuries.

One victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Law enforcement reported that none of the participants were residents of Leon County and that the matter is under investigation by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Rangers.

Commenters via the X App, notably @3SpeedHolster described the incident, "Concealed Carry Citizen shoots lunatic, viciously attacking an elderly man! Police say, he assaulted the elderly man, knocking him unconscious, and continued assaulting him. The armed citizen fired 2 shots, instantly ending the attack." Another user of the social network wrote, "People around Centerville Texas will waste you for being a violent maniac. Won't think once about it, much less twice."

Commenters on the Facebook post wrote, "Another great example of FAFO. The Sheriff is a great supporter of constitutional carry, and has always promoted the citizens rights. Clearly outstanding..." Another user added, "Glad everyone is ok, at Woodys. A big thank you to the Hero Man that stepped up to assist the elderly man being attacked. God bless you sir!!"
