On Thursday evening, Chris Cuomo and Stephen Smith blasted the Department of Justice after it was revealed that Biden's DOJ is indicting the leading Republican candidate Donald Trump for his supposed possession of 'classified' documents that were seized during the Mar-a-Lago raid last year.
The indictment includes seven charges including illegal retention of classified documents, obstruction, and conspiracy. Trump will appear in court on Tuesday in Maimi, Florida.
In the now viral clip, Smith said, "Biden wasn't that popular of a candidate at least before the primaries of South Carolina. Up until that point, he wasn't even in the game because a lot of people were concerned."
"Because of that when you look at it from that perspective Chris, you are going to have people sitting up there on his side and saying 'they can't beat him legitimately,'" Smith explained. "It is going to add momentum to his argument that they are exhausting themselves with doing everything they can to prevent him from being the Republican nominee because they can't beat him. That is what they are going to say."
In addition to Smith blasting the indictment, Chris Cuomo, the host of the News Nation show, also lambasted the DOJ for the move, saying, "I'm not so sure that these investigations aren't done in a way that ends up intentionally or unintentionally helping the former president to be honest. Because every time there is a swing, it seems to expose the fact that they go after him with what seems to be at or below the level of anything that would be impressive to people reviewing the documents."
Cuomo's guest, Twitter Files journalist Matt Taibbi, explained that despite not being a fan of Trump, there the DOJ took an extreme step.
"My feeling is that if you are going to take the very extreme step of indicting somebody who is going to be the likely nominee of the opposition party, the charge has to meet two tests: it has to be extremely serious and it has to be an airtight case. And I think both of these cases fell on both of those points," Taibbi said.
In response, Cuomo said, "I think that to the majority, the optics are terrible. If you are swinging at somebody during an election and you don't have what we deem the goods."
"I think if you are a person who grew up in a third world country, you would recognize this kind of things as something that happens in a not entirely free society," the Twitter Files journalist said in response. "The optics around this are terrible, there is no way around it."
It would seem that the Department of Justice's effort to indict President Trump is even getting lambasted by members of the left as Americans are seeing right through the blatant attempt to interfere in the 2024 election and stop Trump from obtaining another four years in the White House.
