Newly released emails reveal that former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauci repeatedly lied to the American public and Congress about knowledge of gain-of-function research, the process of increasing the transmissibility or lethality of a virus, taking place at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China.
According to the emails obtained by U.S. Right to Know, Fauci obtained talking points from an aide for a press conference on January 27, 2020, pertaining to the Wuhan lab where the National Institutes of Health was actively funding research.
The funding from the NIAID was sent through EcoHealth Alliance which was contracted to conduct the gain-of-function research for multiple years leading up to 2020. Thanks to the funding, the organization was able to 52 novel subcoronaviruses.
“EcoHealth group (Peter Daszak et al), has for years been among the biggest players in coronavirus work, also in collaboration with Ralph Baric, Ian Lipkin and others,” wrote Fauci’s chief of staff Greg Folkers to his boss and various others.
The email then goes into a number of details pertaining to the work that was being conducted in China. According to Folkers, EcoHealth Alliance has sampled over 10,000 bats and 2,000 other animals across southern China. Due to that work, the group was able to identify 172 novel beta-coronaviruses, 52 novel SARS-coronaviruses (the same as Covid-19), and 350 novel alpha-coronaviruses.
The chief of staff didn't specifically mention gain-of-function research in the talking points but did point out that the diseases discovered “cause SARS-like disease in humanized mouse models.”
As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Anthony Fauci has repeatedly clashed with Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) on whether or not gain-of-function research was taking place in Wuhan.
This has seemingly come to a head after Paul referred Fauci to the DOJ for criminal prosecution for perjury during a congressional hearing.
"This is when they’re just beginning to look into the pandemic. And in that email, he basically says, ‘Yes, we’re suspicious that this could be a manipulated virus because it came from a lab in Wuhan, where they do gain of function research,’ and he describes the research," Paul said in an interview last month about a previously released email.
“Well, this directly contradicts everything he said in committee hearing to me, denying absolutely that they funded any gain of function, and it’s absolutely a lie,” the senator said. “That’s why we ended up referring him again this week to the Department of Justice, for prosecution for lying to Congress."
While Anthony Fauci attempted to obfuscate the reality of what happened at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, it would appear that the truth is finally catching up to him.
