'Tired Of The Double Standard': Jim Jordan Moves To Defund Special Counsel Jack Smith, Other Left-Wing Prosecutors Going After Trump

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) said on Monday that he is working on a plan to put a stop to the "politicized persecutions" against presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump by left-wing prosecutors and Biden Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith.

"We have conducted oversight of the troubling rise in politicized prosecutions and the use of abusive 'lawfare' tactics to target political opponents," Jordan wrote. "We have seen rogue prosecutors abuse the rules of professional conduct and their duty to do justice in service of politicized ends."

"We recommend that the Appropriations Committee, with appropriate consultation from leadership, include language to eliminate federal funding for state prosecutors or state attorneys general involved in lawfare and to zero out federal funding for federal prosecutors engaged in such abuse," Jordan continued. "In addition, the Judiciary Committee has passed specific bills that would help to address politicized prosecutions, and we encourage the Appropriations Committee to consider including the policies contained in each: H.R. 2553, the No More Political Prosecutions Act, and H.R. 2595, the Forfeiture Funds Expenditure Transparency Act."

Jordan's plan to defund special counsel Jack Smith comes after a New York jury convicted Trump in the hush-money case brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D). As previously reported by the DC Enquier, the jury found Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records. Following the verdict, Trump told the press that he would continue to fight in the courts to achieve justice and continued to say that the trial against him was election interference. Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's sentencing hearing for July 11th, just days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

While congressional leaders like Jordan are attempting to fight back against the politicization of the legal system, Trump's legal team has been able to deal significant blows to Smith's case. Last month, Judge Aileen Cannon, the judge overseeing the classified documents case brought by Smith, decided to postpone the case indefinitely, citing the need to address multiple pre-trial issues. The trial, which was initially set for May 20th, is now in a state of uncertainty as Judge Cannon did not provide a new trial date.

While the classified documents case is unlikely to be heard before the November election, the other special counsel case focused on the 2020 election and January 6th has also been delayed significantly as the Supreme Court considers whether Trump has immunity from prosecution.

The Democrats' plan to use the law to go after their political opponent has backfired significantly. Trump continues to lead in the polls despite the recent New York conviction, and the American people see through the weaponization of the legal system. Rep. Jordan is taking a stand to defund Jack Smith and ensure that the 2024 election is decided by the ballot box and not by the courtroom.
