After video footage of a Nevada Tribal Ranger using his truck to break down an illegal roadblock created by eco-terrorists went viral, former Senior Advisor to the 45th President Donald J. Trump Stephen Miller soundly criticized the so-called "climate activists." Miller and many others on X (formerly Twitter) pushed back against the notion of blocking a roadway as a viable form of protest.
Miller wrote, "Illegally shutting a road is one of the most selfish and dangerous things you can do. It blocks emergency vehicles, prevents people from going to the hospital (including those giving birth), it keeps people from critical jobs (eg elderly care, pharmacists, linemen). It’s deadly."
The Trump advisor was responding to video footage shared by Jack Posobiec of Human Events who wrote, "Tribal Rangers trucks in Nevada just RAMMED a climate change group blocking the road and mass arrested all of them."
According to The Gateway Pundit, the officers broke through the makeshift barricade that blocked access to the Burning Man festival in Black City, Nevada. The protesters blocked the road and caused a significant traffic jam.
MyNews4, a local outlet, reported that Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe chairman James Phoenix told reporters that the Rangers were called in on reports that the protesters had blocked the entrance to the festival. He told the outlet, Rangers ordered the protestors to get out of the road.
Video shows one tribal officer pushing the illegal barricade out of the roadway. MyNews4 reported that an officer could later be seen leaving the vehicle and arresting a woman at gunpoint.
Video obtained by FreedomNews.TV's Oliya Scootercaster was posted featuring the officer telling protesters "30 seconds, send your leader to my vehicle, let's talk, get off the fucken road." Oliya reported that about 37 seconds later, the officer "RAMMED through blockade, made arrest at gun point."
The group Seven Circles claimed responsibility for the illegal roadblock in a post to X.
In a press release regarding the roadblock, the group refers to itself as "a diverse coalition that uses non-violent direct action to raise class consciousness within the climate movement. It was formed with the objective of uniting labor unions, climate scientists, student bodies, socialist organizations, and the general public in demanding a change to the current economic system—capitalism—to avert the risk of social collapse."
Seven Circles claimed the so-called "blockade" was "an urgent call to action, activists from Seven Circles, a coalition of activist organizations, blocked traffic into Burning Man on the event’s first day open to the general public. The group blocked a main thoroughfare using a trailer, lock-ons, and banners with the words “BURNERS OF THE WORLD, UNITE!”, “ABOLISH CAPITALISM”, and “GENERAL STRIKE FOR CLIMATE.”
This action follows a long history of nonviolent civil disobedience as a tool for societal change, such as sit-ins during the civil rights movement and traffic obstruction by women suffragettes. The purpose of the blockade is to draw attention to capitalism's inability to address climate and ecological breakdown. The blockade is also in protest against the popularization of Burning Man among affluent people who do not live the stated values of Burning Man, resulting in the commodification of the event."
Counterculture journalist Michelle Lhooq had a very different, somewhat more critical take. She wrote, "Burning Man climate protestors have now been arrested. Nevada ranger told me they received a 911 call saying that someone in the crowd was going to shoot the activists… And this was somehow their reason for charging in, guns blazing?"
All five of the eco-terrorists were cited and released by tribal police.
