Trump's Mugshot Deemed 'The Most Iconic Photo In The History Of US Politics' By Allies And Critics Alike

On Thursday evening, leading Republican presidential candidate and 45th President Donald Trump's mugshot from his booking at the Fulton County jail in Georgia went public and instantly became one of the most famous photographs in American history. The photo emblazoned the front page of every major newspaper and will be printed in history books centuries from now.

Trump himself posted the image to X, formerly Twitter, in his first post since being suspended following the events of January 6, 2021. The post, which has gone viral, is a picture of Trump's mugshot along with the caption, "ELECTION INTERFERENCE NEVER SURRENDER! DONALDJTRUMP.COM".

Trump's mugshot surpassed 140 million views a little over 12 hours after it was posted at 8:38 PM EST. As of this report, Trump's mugshot has 149.6 million views, 284,000 reposts, 84,000 quote tweets, 1.2 million likes, and 33,000 bookmarks.

The mugshot's historic nature has already been noted by many outlets. CNN called the photograph "iconic and infamous" and The Associated Press described it as "an enduring image that will appear in history books long after Donald Trump is gone."

The president's son, Donald Trump Jr., defined the image as “the most iconic photo in the history of US politics."

In the image, Trump can be seen giving an intense glare with The Associated Press describing the image in the following manner: "His defiance is palpable, as if he's staring down a nemesis through the lens."

"His platinum blonde cotton candy wisp of hair shimmering in the harsh jailhouse lighting," Time Magazine wrote. "His eyes locked in a hard stare. His mouth flattened in a grimace. Instead of smiling like some of his co-defendants, he appears to be scowling."

The New York Times described the photo as "a mug shot for history that is unprecedented" and that "his face is lit from above by a blinding white flash that hits his ash blond hair like a spotlight."

"As usual, he is dressed in the colors of the American flag: navy suit, white shirt, bright red tie — though his typical flag lapel pin is either absent or invisible. He glowers out from beneath his brows, unsmiling, eyes rendered oddly bloodshot, brow furrowed, chin tucked in, as if he is about to head-butt the camera," The Times continued. "The image is stark, shorn of the flags and fancy that have been Mr. Trump’s preferred framings for photo ops at Mar-a-Lago or Trump Tower, or during his term in office, and that communicate power and the gilded glow of success."

Trump's mugshot will be viewed by millions if not billions of people in the coming years. It will define American politics for the next decade and go down in history as one of the most important photographs in American political history. Long before Donald Trump departs this Earth, the striking image will continue to resonate across the globe.
