Trump Demands Jack Smith's DC Election Trial Be Televised - They're The 'Team Of Losers And Misfits'

On Friday, leading Republican presidential candidate and 45th President Donald Trump demanded, via a court filing, that his upcoming trial in Washington, D.C., be televised for the American people to see after he was charged by Special Counsel Jack Smith in his investigation into Trump's actions following the 2020 election. The Department of Justice has opposed any effort to televise the trial, which is set to take place in March.

"President Trump absolutely agrees, and in fact demands, that these proceedings should be fully televised so that the American public can see firsthand that this case, just like others, is nothing more than a dreamt-up unconstitutional charade that should never be allowed to happen again," Trump's lawyers wrote in a filing. "Furthermore, President Trump is entitled to present his positions in this case to the American public, including his sacred obligation as President to investigate and address fraud and other irregularities in the 2020 Presidential Election. Therefore, the Court should grant the Motions and allow the movants to broadcast the proceedings of this matter in order to ensure that the American public can see the bare truth of this case, witness the Biden Administration's wrongful acts, and hear all the evidence regarding an election that President Trump believes was rigged and stolen."

The filing goes on to argue that the Biden administration is directing a political persecution of the former president in order to prevent him from running an effective campaign to challenge Joe Biden in 2024. Despite these best efforts, Trump has remained dominant in the polls against the Democrat incumbent, with a recent New York Times survey showing him defeating Biden in five out of the six swing states.

"For the first time in American history, an incumbent administration has charged its main, leading electoral opponent with a criminal offense. Aware that its charges are meritless, the prosecution has sought to proceed in secret, forcing the nation and the world to rely on biased, secondhand accounts coming from the Biden Administration and its media allies," the filing reads, as reported by Newsmax. "As a result, the citizens of our great country are unable to review for themselves what the facts of this case show, and how unfairly President Trump is being treated at the hands of his political opponent. As President Trump has made clear from the outset, the prosecution has repeatedly denied him his fundamental constitutional rights, including the right to prepare for trial and to present a fulsome defense."

"The prosecution wishes to continue this travesty in darkness. President Trump calls for sunlight," Trump's legal team explains. "Every person in America, and beyond, should have the opportunity to study this case firsthand and watch as, if there is a trial, President Trump exonerates himself of these baseless and politically motivated charges. The Court should grant the Motions without delay."

Trump also took to Truth Social on Monday to rail against Jack Smith and the rest of the "losers and misfits" that have brought civil and criminal cases against him, including New York Attorney General Letitia James (D-NY), Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

"Deranged Jack Smith, Andrew Weissmann, Lisa Monaco, the 'team of losers and misfits' from CREW, and all the rest of the Radical Left Zealots and Thugs who have been working illegally for years to 'take me down,' will end up, because of their suffering from a horrible disease, TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME (TDS!), in a Mental Institution by the time my next term as President is successfully completed," Trump wrote before signing off with "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
