Trump Demands Members Of The January 6 Committee Be Indicted Following Explosive Revelations

On Thursday, presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump took to Truth Social to demand that the members of the House January 6 Committee be indicted for "illegally deleting and destroying" files and other documents related to the committee's investigation of the Capitol Riot. Trump's comments came after his former advisor, Steve Bannon, was ordered to present himself to jail on July 1 after being convicted of contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena from the J6 Committee.

"It is a Total and Complete American Tragedy that the Crooked Joe Biden Department of Injustice is so desperate to jail Steve Bannon, and every other Republican, for that matter, for not SUBMITTING to the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs, made up of all Democrats, and two CRAZED FORMER REPUBLICAN LUNATICS, Cryin' Adam Kinzinger, and Liz 'Out of Her Mind' Cheney," Trump wrote on Turth Social.

"It has been irrefutably proven that it was the Unselects who committed actual crimes when they deleted and destroyed all material evidence, in a pathetic attempt to protect Crazy Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats from the TRUTH — THAT I DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG," he continued. "The unAmerican Weaponization of our Law Enforcement has reached levels of Illegality never thought possible before. INDICT THE UNSELECT J6 COMMITTEE FOR ILLEGALLY DELETING AND DESTROYING ALL OF THEIR 'FINDINGS!' MAGA2024."

"It would not have mattered whether Steve Bannon, and others, went in front of the Unselect Committee of Criminal Hacks and Thugs, BECAUSE ALL OF THE INFORMATION ENDED UP BEING ILLEGALLY DELETED AND DESTROYED BY THESE CORRUPT RADICALS!" Trump added.

Trump's threats to indict members of the committee have led to worry among the Democrats who participated in the proceedings. "My wife and I have had conversations about what life would look like if the worst happened," Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who routinely lied to the American people to push the Russia collusion conspiracy theory, said earlier this year. "You can't avoid the conversations about 'What if?' And I have to think about my own personal safety."

Another lawmaker who sat on the committee, House Democratic Caucus Chair Rep. Pete Aguillar (D-CA), explained to CBS that he takes Trump's threats seriously, telling reporters that if he was sent to a local D.C. jail, "My family has told me that they're going to come to D.C. either way — and they'll visit me, no matter where I am."

"One of the things that I observed during our January 6 committee work was that when Trump says something, he intends to do it," Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) said. "I take that lesson to heart. When he says various things, I think that's what he means he'll do."

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, the January 6 Committee deleted at least 100 encrypted files related to their investigation prior to House Republicans taking over the lower chamber in January 2023. Given this fact, Trump has repeatedly demanded that those involved be held accountable, including former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), who served as vice chair. "She should go to Jail along with the rest of the Unselect Committee!" Trump wrote on Truth Social in March.
