A new Pennsylvania poll out from AARP shows presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump dominating President Biden among most demographics, with a significant edge with older generations. The poll comes as Biden attempts to hold the blue wall of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania in order to win 270 electoral votes to win the presidency in November. If voter sentiment expressed in AARP's poll stays the same, however, the Democrats are in for a bruising come November.
The poll, conducted from April 24-30 with 1,398 likely voters, paints a compelling picture. Trump commands 49 percent support, surpassing President Biden's 45 percent. An additional two percent of voters chose the 'other' option, and four percent were undecided. Among voters over the age of 50, a demographic that was oversampled in the AARP poll, Trump secured a 10-point lead with 52 percent, compared to Biden's 42 percent. Among voters 18-49, Trump only lost that cohort by three points with 45 percent to Biden's 48 percent. With such a commanding lead over a demographic that votes at a much higher rate compared to the rest of the population, Trump's 10-point lead with voters 50+ is a promising sign for his campaign.
In a four-way ballot that included Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver, Trump received 46 percent support compared to Biden's 41 percent. Stein received five percent, Oliver got three percent, and six percent were undecided. Notably, the poll did not include independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. or independent candidate Cornel West.
President Biden's abysmal polling numbers in the Keystone State have been consistent in recent months, with the Real Clear Politics polling average showing Trump leading Biden by one point in the critical swing state. The Biden campaign's inability to attract voters to his side comes as a majority of Americans' disappointment with his failing presidency.
Recent polling from Gallup revealed that Biden has the lowest approval rating of any of his modern contemporaries at this point in his presidency. In the 13th quarter of his presidency, Biden only has the approval of 38.7 percent of the country. This is in stark contrast to some of his predecessors at the same point in their term, with Trump at 46.8 percent approval, Obama at 45.9 percent approval, George W. Bush at 51 percent approval, Clinton at 53 percent approval, George H. W. Bush at 41.8 percent approval, Reagan at 54.8 percent approval, Carter at 47.7 percent approval, Nixon at 53.7 percent approval, and Eisenhower at a stunning 73.2 percent approval.
