Race to the WH released an average of the early state polling and highlighted key states that needed to be secured to gain the presidential nomination. Even in Trump’s smallest margin, South Carolina, he’s still leading second place Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) by 21.7 percent, having garnered 40.8 percent in comparison to DeSantis’ 19.1 percent.
The margin only grows larger as you go to other essential states with Trump getting 44.8 percent in Iowa compared to the 22.2 percent that the Sunshine State governor holds onto. New Hampshire awards the real estate mogul a massive 30.7 percent lead with his 46 percent support compared to DeSantis’ 15.3 percent.
Trump dominates the most in Nevada, having an immense 52.5 percent support compared to second place DeSantis’ 20.9 percent, giving him his largest 31.6 percent margin.
The other candidates largely have little to no notable support in South Carolina, with Tim Scott (R-SC) and Nikki Haley (R-SC) both garnering 10 percent support in their home, though Haley has a tenth of a percentage more support than Scott.
In overall polling, Trump once again completely blows his competitors out of the water. Morning Consult released their most recent 2024 Republican primary poll, asking 3,650 potential Republican primary voters between June 23-25 who their first and second choices would be.
The New York City native sits atop with 57 percent support, leaving a massive 38 percent gap between him and second-place DeSantis. The Florida government official has his solid 19 percent, though continues to be looking to trend downwards overall in support.
Former Vice President Mike Pence (R-IN) managed to secure third place with his seven percent support, followed by businessman Vivek Ramaswamy (R) with six percent. Haley and Scott seem to largely stick next to each other, each getting three percent followed by Chris Christie (R-NJ) with two percent and Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) with one percent.
DeSantis may not be the first pick for Republicans, but he does sit comfortably as the second pick, with 42 percent of poll respondents giving him their secondary support. Mike Pence is followed in second choices, with 14 percent of Trump backers and 15 percent of DeSantis’ backers, giving him an average of 14 percent secondary support.
The poll also allows a potential 2024 election hypothetical, where Trump can beat incumbent President Joe Biden. The New York City mogul was able to get 44 percent support while Biden only got 41 percent, awarding Trump a three percent lead. Ten percent of respondents said that they intended to vote for someone else while five percent are unsure.
DeSantis was not able to fare as well, losing his hypothetical to Biden by two percent. 40 percent supported the Florida governor, but 42 percent would pick the long-time Democratic politician. 12 percent stated they would be supporting someone else with another six percent being unsure of who they would support.
It’s clear that Trump is sitting comfortably at the front of the GOP and unless it’s discovered that Baron Trump was selling confidential information to foreign nations, it’ll probably be staying that way.
