The latest polls show 45th President Donald Trump beating both incumbent President Joe Biden as well as Republican primary challenger Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in the various swing states, solidifying him as the likely Republican nominee to face Biden in 2024.
The poll, from Echelon Insight, asked 1,020 likely voters a multitude of questions between June 26-29, but notably who they would support in the 2024 presidential race. When it came to a general election, Donald Trump narrowly lost to Biden, with 44 percent supporting him and 45 percent supporting the corrupt current president.
When responding to the poll, the likely voters were able to choose whether they would “probably” or “definitely” support a candidate, as well as an option of “unsure.” A solid 33 percent said they were “definitely” picking Trump with the remaining 11 percent saying they would “probably” support him. Biden has 35 percent saying they would “definitely” support him and ten percent saying they would “probably” support the Democrat. The final 11 percent were unsure.
DeSantis did narrowly worse than Trump, only garnering 42 percent support while Biden still maintained his 45 percent support in the different match-up. The breakdown is even worse for the Sunshine State governor, with only 23 percent intending to “definitely” vote for him against Biden and his other 18 percent saying they would “probably” do so. Biden's numbers look roughly the same with 33 percent saying they would “definitely” support the mentally declining politician and 12 percent saying they would “probably” do so, leaving 13 percent in the poll unsure.
The poll did feature slightly more Democrats than Republicans, with 38 percent of respondents saying they were “strong” or “not very strong” Democrats and 37 percent saying they were “strong” or “not very strong” Republicans. A notable 22 percent of respondents were Independents and the final two percent were unsure what they’d be considered. Nonetheless, the one percent difference in the party representation could have caused the one percent difference in Trump’s polling against Biden.
A major part of this poll is the result in swing states where Donald Trump was able to overwhelmingly defeat Biden, having 48 percent support compared to Biden’s 41 percent. In contrast, DeSantis was only able to narrowly beat Biden by one percent, getting 44 percent support compared to the incumbent president's 43 percent support in swing states.
The poll didn’t stop just at voting preferences, finding what people thought of America's future and of the notable issues it faces. A massive 67 percent said that they believed the country was on the “wrong track” compared to a measly 25 percent who said it was heading in the “right direction.”
There was also a question asking what people found to be the “biggest issue facing the country today,” with the number one position being the current cost of living at 25 percent. Second was jobs and the economy with 13 percent finding it to be the most pressing issue, and political corruption at third with 12 finding it to be the most pressing.
While the overall general election polling may not inspire people to feel the best about Trump’s 2024 success, his polling in the key swing states should. Considering that he needs to simply win the most electoral college votes, being able to garner more support in the swing states goes a long way in securing him his second presidential term.
