A new poll from NBC News released earlier this week found that 45th President Donald Trump is dominating President Joe Biden on the economy, so much so that Trump set a poll record. American voters have suffered under Biden's economy as inflation has raised prices significantly, rising interest rates have made home-buying unaffordable, and the economy continues to struggle.
The poll, taken from January 26-30 with 1,000 registered voters, found that 55 percent of voters believed that Trump was better at handling the economy than Biden at 33 percent. That disparity of 22 points is the largest difference since the poll's inception in 1992.
The poll also found that voters perceive Trump as more competent as president than Biden. A shocking double-digit difference separates the two men on that question, with Trump at 48 percent and Biden at 32 percent. The disparity between the two party leaders was flipped in 2020 when 47 percent of voters believed that Biden was more competent compared to 38 percent of voters believing Trump was the more competent executive.
Biden's approval rating has also slumped as his perilous presidency continues into its fourth year. Among the voters polled, only 37 percent approve of Biden's job performance, the lowest approval rating since President George H. W. Bush's second term. In comparison, Trump's lowest approval rating in the NBC News poll was 39 percent.
These various failings have ultimately resulted in Trump being the favorite to win back the White House in November. The poll found Trump with a five-point edge over Biden, greater than the poll's margin of error of 3.1 percent, with the Republican at 47 percent compared to the elderly Democrat's 42 percent. Trump's considerable lead isn't an outlier either, with the Real Clear Politics polling average having Trump up by 1.7 points.
The American people realize the impact of Biden's economic policies on their everyday financial well-being. The economy has suffered tremendously following the coronavirus pandemic, and Biden's inability to reignite the same economic boom seen under Trump creates a notable disparity in the minds of voters. Trump's formidable economy from 2017 to early 2020 has not been forgotten by the millions of Americans who saw their livelihoods improve, their investments increase, and their economic well-being prosper. If America wishes for the return of an economy that will prioritize the well-being of Americans, then reelecting Trump in November is the right path forward.
