On Saturday, presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump hosted a lavish fundraiser in Florida that raised over $50 million for the presidential campaign. The event dwarfed President Joe Biden's fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall last month in New York City with 44th President Obama and 42nd President Bill Clinton. The 45th president has been ramping up his fundraising efforts to compete against the Democrat machine that has allowed the Biden campaign to have tens of millions of dollars on hand for the upcoming election.
The fundraiser's success was largely due to Trump's initiative, with the Republican leader reportedly calling up fellow billionaires to encourage them to donate to the Trump 47 Committee. The "Inaugural Leadership Dinner" was hosted at Wall Street billionaire John Paulson's home in Palm Beach, Florida, and tickets were as high as $824,600 for a seat at President Trump's table. In addition to Trump and former First Lady Melania Trump being in attendance, the event also included former presidential candidates Vivek Ramaswamy (R-OH), Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC).
"Tonight will be an incredible night for President Trump and the Republican Party, raising an astounding $50.5 million," Trump campaign advisors Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles said ahead of the event. "Meanwhile, after locking up the nomination in one of the fastest primaries in modern political history, Donald J. Trump is winning poll after poll and proving that the enthusiasm is on his side. It's clearer than ever that we have the message, the operation, and the money to propel President Trump to victory on November 5."
"The success of tonight's event is proving what we already know: Americans are fed up with Biden's record of failure, from the open southern border and sky-high inflation to the migrant crime crisis that has made everyone less safe," RNC Chairman Michael Whatley and Co-Chairman Lara Trump explained, per Newsmax. "The Republican Party is united behind the effort to elect President Donald J. Trump, and Americans are lining up to join our movement and retire Crooked Joe Biden once and for all."
The Palm Beach fundraiser's tremendous success far exceeds the Biden campaign's star-studded fundraiser last month, which raised $26 million. The Manhattan fundraiser, which had pricey $100,000, $250,000, and $500,000 tickets, was advertised as the highlight of Biden's March campaign push, which saw the 81-year-old president traveling to swing states to reinvigorate his struggling campaign. The event featured a panel discussion with the three presidents hosted by late-night host Stephen Colbert, as well as performances by Queen Latifah, Lizzo, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo, and Lea Michele. First Lady Jill Biden and DJ D-Nice also hosted an after-party event. The fundraiser, which had around 3,000 donors in attendance, sold out but was repeatedly interrupted by pro-Palestine protestors.
While Biden still maintains a sizeable lead in the cash he has on hand, Trump is catching up. As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Trump and the RNC were able to raise $65.6 million in March and ended the month with $93.1 million on hand to fund Trump's presidential campaign. Trump's March fundraising numbers dwarf his previous donation numbers, with Trump raising $9 million in January and $20 million in February. Campaign advisor Susie Wiles explained that the large influx of cash to the campaign is thanks to the campaign "steadily ramping up our fundraising efforts, and our March numbers are a testament to the overwhelming support for President Trump by voters all across the spectrum. Republicans may not be beneficiaries of the self-interested largess from Hollywood and Silicon Valley elites, but President Trump is proud to be supported by donations from voters who are the backbone of this nation, which will fuel Republicans up and down the ballot."
