Who Do You Want As Trump's VP?: Trump Clears The Air About Who's On The Chopping Block For His Vice Presidential Pick

During an appearance on the 'Todd Starnes Show' on Monday, 45th President Donald J. Trump all but eliminated any hopes that he could potentially join forces with the current runner-up in the Republican primary, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL).

According to Florida's Voice, Trump made the clear implication that had DeSantis chosen not to run, his odds of being tapped for vice president would be much greater.

“I was very surprised that he did,” Trump said. “Without that, it would have been a distinct possibility.”

“I don’t know. I don’t like saying anything is impossible, but pretty unlikely I would think,” he explained, according to ToddStarnes.com. “I endorsed him. I got him elected. And then he did this. I was very surprised that he did. Without that it would’ve been a distinct possibility."He added, “He certainly has gone way down in the polls and I’ve gone way up.”

During a previous interview in May, per Florida's Voice, Trump indicated that his support for DeSantis in 2018 paved his path to the governorship.

“Look, Rob DeSanctimonious came to me asking for help. He was losing badly, by 31 points, to popular Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam,” he said. “He was getting ready to drop out of the race – Ran a terrible campaign! Ron told me he had one last chance, my Support & Endorsement, which Putnam, and everyone else, wanted also.”

Trump said, “I gave it to Ron, and the race was over. In one day, he went from losing badly, to winning by a lot. With 3 LARGE TRUMP RALLIES, he WON THE GENERAL ELECTION in an upset. DISLOYAL!!!”

Trump told Starnes, "Remember one thing. A running mate is very important…it’s very important, especially should something happen where there has to be a replacement, so it is a very important decision." Although he added, the "vice president never really helps too much," in the election.

“We’ll pick the best person, and actually a lot of people think people are running for that reason. But we’ll see if that’s the reason. We’re doing very well in the polls. We’re way up, a 40-50 point lead in many instances, and very importantly we’re beating Biden by a lot…more than DeSantis is beating him, by a lot.”
