President Trump Makes MAJOR Shake-Up To His Campaign, Brings Back Veterans From 2016 And 2020 Races

On Thursday, the Trump campaign announced it would hire several new advisors and former 2016 campaign manager Corey Lewandowski to bolster its ranks less than three months before Election Day. The move came after Vice President Kamala Harris's ascension to the top of the Democratic ticket dramatically changed the presidential race, resulting in a far more competitive race than the one against President Joe Biden.

Lewandowski, who was responsible for Trump's 2016 surprise win, will be positioned at the top of the campaign as a campaign chairman, above campaign co-managers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita. "As we head into the home stretch of this election, we are continuing to add to our impressive campaign team," Wiles and LaCivita said in a statement. "Corey Lewandowski, Taylor Budowich, Alex Pfeiffer, Alex Bruesewitz, and Tim Murtaugh are all veterans of prior Trump campaigns, and their unmatched experience will help President Trump prosecute the case against Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, the most radical ticket in American history."

The former Trump campaign manager has been in some hot water recently after having to resign from a Trump-aligned super PAC in 2021 after he was accused of making unwanted sexual advances toward a top Trump donor's wife. Lewandowski was eventually charged with a misdemeanor over the incident, but it was rescinded after he agreed to complete impulse control counseling, according to POLITICO.

In addition to the former campaign manager, Team Trump will also be bringing on several other new staffers, including Trump's 2020 communications director Tim Murtaugh, Alex Pfeiffer, Taylor Budowich, and Alex Bruesewitz, top officials on the Trump-supporting political action committee MAGA Inc.

The Trump campaign has faced significant headwinds recently as enthusiasm for Harris has reached a fevered pitch. Recent polls show that the race is far more competitive than the one against President Biden a month ago. According to the FiveThirtyEight national polling average, Harris has a 2.7-point lead on Trump with 46.2 percent support compared to Trump's 43.5 percent. The swing states have also narrowed significantly, with Harris gaining ground in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania and beginning to challenge Trump's dominance in Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, and even North Carolina.

The shake-up of the Trump campaign is a sign that the 45th president realizes that he's slipping in the polls and needs to make a change to regain the momentum. Harris has gained considerable ground thanks to the media's glowing reviews of her campaign and her unwillingness to answer any questions. While Team Trump has begun to figure out the kind of attacks that stick to the vice president, the reorganization will allow Lewandowski, an advisor with a presidential win under his belt, to control the campaign's messaging.
