After President Joe Biden's abysmal debate performance last week, Democrats and members of the media have begun to turn on him by demanding that he withdraw from the race or even resign from the presidency amid his apparent decline in cognitive abilities. Despite the multiple past examples of his age having an impact on him and his debate performance, the White House has remained adamant that he will stay in the race and that the debate was just a "bad night." To challenge that claim, presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump challenged the president on Thursday to a no-holds-barred debate to prove to the American people that Biden is competent enough to stay in the race.
"I have the answer to the Crooked Joe Biden Incompetence Puzzle — Let's do another Debate, but this time, no holds barred - An all on discussion, with just the two of us on stage, talking about the future of our Country," Trump wrote on Truth Social on Independence Day. "The ratings were massive for the First Debate, record-setting, in fact, but this one, because of the format, would blow everything away!"
"Let Joe explain why he wants Open Borders, with millions of people, and many violent criminals from parts unknown, pouring into our once great Nation, or why he wants Men Playing in Women's Sports, or demand ALL ELECTRIC VEHICLES within five years, or why he allowed INFLATION TO RUN RAMPANT, destroying the people of our Country, and so much more," the 45th president continued. "It would also, under great pressure, prove his "competence," or lack thereof. Likewise, it would be yet another test for me. What a great evening it would be, just the two of us, one on one, in a good, old fashioned Debate, the way they used to be. ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, ANYPLACE!!!"
The Biden campaign has tried desperately to prove that they can run a successful race against Trump despite the ample criticism. Biden will be doing his first post-debate television interview with ABC News host George Stephanopoulos on Friday in what is expected to be a make-or-break moment for the campaign. The president met with Democrat governors on Wednesday to discuss his campaign's future and ensure that he can take on Donald Trump in November. Those assurances seemed to assure those in attendance, with many of them coming out and supporting the president's re-election.
"[Joe Biden] is our nominee. He is in it to win it, and I support him," Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) wrote to X after the meeting. "I heard three words from the President tonight -- he's all in. And so am I. [Joe Biden] 's had our back. Now it's time to have his," Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) wrote. While many have speculated who would replace Biden if, or even when, he drops out, it appears that the Biden campaign is adamant that he remains at the top of the ticket. The president's debate performance was a wake-up call for many Democrats. Trump's proposal for another debate could lead to a successful Biden comeback amongst Democrats or the final nail in his coffin.
