On Thursday, the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) made their pick for the 2024 presidential race, with the Iowa caucus just days away. As Trump continues to get endorsement after endorsement in the race for the White House, the other Republican presidential candidate's chances seem increasingly slim.
"Now is the time to unite and support the candidate who best can accomplish what is needed to put America back on track. CPAC enthusiastically endorses Donald J. Trump for president of the United States," CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp explained in a statement. Trump has been a regular speaker at CPAC conferences throughout the years, and the 45th president has worked with the conference to fight back against left-wing indoctrination in schools and higher education. "The extreme leftist Marxists have infiltrated our colleges, universities, elementary schools, the military, in fact, all of our sacred institutions," Schlapp said. "As conditions at the border, the economy, and culture dramatically worsen every day, one person has again clearly won the hearts and minds of conservatives for his tireless commitment to make America great again."
"Voters have heard from all the candidates on their policies to save America at this most urgent time in history," the CPAC chairman continued, per The Washington Examiner. "President Trump will win. He will be the 47th president, and the best for America is yet to come." Trump handily won a CPAC straw poll in March 2023 with 62 percent of the vote and has been the top choice for those attending the conference for many years.
Schlapp is right about Trump's ability to dethrone President Biden and win out to become the Republican nominee. According to the Five Thirty Eight polling average, Trump enjoys 60.4 percent support nationally, DeSantis has 12.1 percent, Haley has 11.7 percent, and Vivek Ramaswamy (R-OH) has 4.3 percent. In Iowa, where the first contest of 2024 is set to take place on Monday, Trump has 52.3 percent support compared to Haley's 17.7 percent, DeSantis' 16.2 percent, and Vivek's 6.3 percent. Trump also dominates in the polls against President Biden, with the Real Clear Politics polling average having the leading Republican presidential candidate up 2.2 percentage points over the elderly Democrat.
The Conservative Political Action Conference made the right decision in backing Trump in 2024. His poll numbers have steadily increased in the Republican primary in recent months. He sits at the strongest point in his political career in history against an 81-year-old Democrat who is broadly unpopular with the rest of the country. Trump will be the Republican nominee, and if Republicans rally around him, he will beat Joe Biden this November and take back the White House.
