The Peace President: Trump Says Putin 'Weakened' After Failed Coup, Says US Should 'Force Peace' - 'This Is The Time To Do It'

In a bombshell interview with Reuters, the 45th President of the United States Donald J. Trump offered his assessment of peace prospects between Ukraine under President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Russian Federation under President Vladimir Putin after the recent abortive armed coup from the mercenary Wagner Group and leader Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Trump told Reuters in a telephone interview, "This is the time to do it, to get the two parties together to force peace," noting that while Putin is "still strong" he's been "I would say, somewhat weakened."

"I want people to stop dying over this ridiculous war," Trump told the outlet.

As reported by The Washington Times, Trump said in context: “I think the biggest thing that the U.S. should be doing right now is making peace — getting Russia and Ukraine together and making peace. You can do it. This is the time to do it, to get the two parties together to force peace.”

He added, “You could say that [Putin’s] still there. He’s still strong but he certainly has been, I would say, somewhat weakened at least in the minds of a lot of people.”

Trump later observed that mediation is necessary and that Ukraine and Russia could potentially come to terms. “I think [Ukraine] would be entitled to keep much of what they’ve earned and I think that Russia likewise would agree to that. You need the right mediator or negotiator, and we don’t have that right now,” he said.

However, Trump cautioned that insisting upon bringing Putin to the International Criminal Court on war crimes charges at this stage would harm negotiations. “Because right now if you bring that topic up you’ll never make peace, you’ll never make a settlement.”

As reported by Newsmax, Trump told supporters Saturday night in Washington, D.C., "Before I even arrived at the Oval Office, I will have the horrible war between Russia and Ukraine totally settled. I'd have it done in 24 hours. I say that, and I would do that. That's easy compared to some of the things."

"I'd get that done in 24 hours," he said adding, "I know them both," referring to Zelenskyy and Putin.

Alluding to scripture, the 45th President told supporters, "As the Bible says, 'Blessed are the peacemakers,'" he said. "I will be your peacemaker."

In his March 16th 'Agenda 47' policy video, Trump laid out his vision to terminate hostilities in Ukraine.

“Every day this proxy battle in Ukraine continues, we risk global war,” President Trump said. “We must be absolutely clear that our objective is to IMMEDIATELY have a total cessation of hostilities. All shooting has to stop. This is the central issue. We need PEACE without delay.”
