GOP frontrunner and 45th President Donald J. Trump will move to implement aggressive, massively impactful immigration restrictions and border controls once elected, according to reports released Monday. Among the reforms, Trump reportedly plans to screen immigration prospects to prevent "Marxists" from entering the nation and would impose a U.S. Navy blockade on Mexico and Central America to intercept and deter drug and human smuggling.
According to Axios, Trump's plan, which would see implementation in 2025 after his second inauguration, would be a massive escalation of his original 2016 vision. Initially, Trump already instituted strict economic and medical standards for immigration but his new plan alleges to go farther by imposing more stringent standards on those seeking to enter or stay in the U.S.
Trump adviser Stephen Miller told Axios,In June, Trump announced at a campaign event in Bedminster, New Jersey that he would invoke existing federal law, the Immigration and Nationality Act § 212(f). He said, “Today, I am announcing a new plan to protect the integrity of our immigration system. Federal law prohibits the entry of communists and totalitarians into the United States," President Trump said. "Using federal law, and Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, I will order my government to deny entry to ALL communists and all Marxists.”"For those passionate about securing our immigration system... the first 100 days of the Trump administration will be pure bliss — followed by another four years of the most hard-hitting action conceivable."
He explained in a written statement that he would,
"Order my government to deny entry to all communists and all Marxists. Those who come to enjoin our country must love our country. We want them to love our country. We don't want them when they want to destroy our country. 'Welcome to America. We want to destroy your country, thank you very much.' So we're going to keep foreign, Christian-hating, Communists, Marxists, and Socialists out of America. We're keeping them out of America."
To further bring the illegal immigration crisis under control he promised to:
- "Issue an Executive Order ending Automatic Citizenship for the children of illegal aliens
- Reinstate Safe Third agreements, Remain in Mexico, Asylum Bans, and the prosecution policy which saw a record number of prosecutions of illegal aliens
- Build even more border wall
- Reimplement Title 42, and use it to end the child trafficking crisis
- Shift federal law enforcement to immigration enforcement, issue a policy directive making clear that a core national defense mission is to protect American Sovereignty, and move thousands of troops currently stationed overseas to our OWN southern border
- Carry out the largest domestic deportation operation in American History
- Invoke the Alien Enemies Act to remove all known or suspected Gang Members, drug dealers, or Cartel Members from the U.S. "
As noted by Axios, this legal option has been available to presidents for decades but merely hasn't been enforced much. As the Congressional Reporting Service stated in 2020, the law has been in effect since 1952 and was implemented first by the Reagan administration in 1981, but was subsequently used in one form or another by every president since.
"For statutory authority, all of these recent proclamations rely principally upon § 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). That provision authorizes the President 'to suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens' whose entry he 'finds ... would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.' The provision has been in the INA since the INA’s original enactment in 1952."
The outlet further reported that Trump would deploy the U.S. Coast Guard and the Navy as well to impose an "embargo" as he put it, to stop drug smuggling over the seas into the U.S. in an escalation of his 2020 Naval task force deployment to the Caribbean.
In a June release, he wrote that he would, "Impose a full naval embargo on the drug cartels and deploy military assets to inflict maximum damage on cartel operations." He reiterated this in an 'Agenda 47' video.
WATCH:To enable this action Trump reportedly will designate Mexican Drug Cartels as “unlawful enemy combatants,” allowing him to order the U.S. military to engage them in a similar fashion to actions against the Islamic State and Al Qaeda.
While this all seems to come as some surprise to Axios and other mainstream outlets, Trump has been delineating his policies in a series of video announcements via Rumble and Truth Social known as 'Agenda 47' for months since the official launch of his re-election campaign. And while the leftist pundits express alarm, America First voters have expressed wide approval of Trump's plans.
