On Friday, Tucker Carlson started his second interview with former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) during the FAMiLY Leadership Summit.
The summit, which can be viewed here, will be hosting multiple GOP presidential candidates including Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former Governor Nikki Haley (R-SC), Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), former Vice President Mike Pence (R-IN), Vivek Ramaswamy, and other candidates. Tucker Carlson will be interviewing each of them.
Throughout the interview, it was clear that the audience was not with Governor Hutchinson given his multiple moderate positions.
The interview began with Hutchinson's controversial veto of a bill that would have banned hormone blockers and trans surgeries for children in his state back in 2021 when he was governor. The governor argued that he believes that parents should have the right to determine the "treatment" of their own children.
Throughout the discussion, Tucker and his guest went back and forth in a heated exchange eventually leading to Asa saying, "Let me finish!"
Carlson repeatedly hammered Hutchinson on the fact that he believes that sex reassignment surgeries are "treatment." The governor explained that he believes that God created two genders and that taxpayer funds shouldn't be used for transgender surgery.
The interview then went on to focus on Hutchinson's efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic where he emphasized his efforts to strike down any vaccine mandates during his tenure.
The governor then explained how he would secure the southern border, emphasizing that there needs to be reforms of asylum laws and declare the Mexican cartels foreign terrorist organizations.
He emphasized that the border needs to be secured but to ensure that legal migrants are still a fundamental aspect of the country. Carlson then pushed Hutchinson on why he doesn't want to use military peronnel to secure the border.
The former Arkansas governor explained that he wouldn't want to use the military because he wants to show strength both to China and to Russia. He also explained that the military is trained to kill people and not to arrest people thus making them inadequate to secure the border.
Hutchinson then criticized other candidates for calling for the bombing of cartel labs in Mexico. The former Bush administration official explained that Mexico needs to work with the US to dismantle the cartels.
Hutchinson went on to explain that fentanyl is a severe crisis in America leading to tens of thousands of Americans dying a year. He emphasized that America's youth need more education on the dangers of illicit drugs and how fentanyl can be laced into these products.
The conversation then took a turn to what the governor prays about. Hutchinson says that he prays for wisdom and that he would be a good steward for God.
