'#TwitterX': Elon Musk Launches Massive Changes To Reshape Twitter To An 'Everything App'

Twitter owner Elon Musk, after teasing the change during a game of Diablo 4, replaced the Twitter 'bird' logo with a large, stylized 'X,' early on Monday morning as part of a rebranding initiative moving toward rebranding Twitter to 'X,' an 'everything app." Creating such an application is a goal that Musk has alluded to long before acquiring the social media giant.

According to Forbes, over the weekend Musk accelerated his plans to convert Twitter to 'X' with the logo update and said he would redirect his X.com domain to Twitter.com, saying cryptically "soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds."

At approximately 3:30 a.m. EST Musk tweeted an image of Twitter's Seattle office with the new stylized 'X' logo projected upon the seven-story facade.

When asked what will replace the verb to 'tweet' someone, Elon replied, "An X." It's unknown whether this was serious or another example of the billionaire's legendary acerbic wit. Responding to a question of how retweeting would be referred to, Musk answered, "That whole concept should be rethought."

However, the answer to one question, posited by a parody of Musk himself, about how "Twitter Blue" would change seems almost certain to be comic in nature.

"Balls. Just … Balls," Musk replied.

In October, following the purchase of Twitter, Musk characterized the decision as "an accelerant to creating X, the everything app," adding, "Twitter probably accelerates X by 3 to 5 years, but I could be wrong."

Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, in a somewhat rare tweet, wrote, "X is here! Let’s do this."

In a tweet presaging the move Sunday, Yaccarino wrote, "X will be the platform that can deliver, well....everything."

As noted by NPR, Musk has used the 'X' moniker for his products and services in the past, notably calling one of his early efforts, a competitor to Paypal, 'X.com' before merging it with the payment processor and retiring the old name. He also named the third Tesla variant the 'X.'

Biographer Ashlee Vance told the outlet, "Everyone tried to talk him out of naming the company that back then because of the sexual innuendos, but he really liked it and stuck with it."

Following Musk's acquisition of Twitter, Inc. filings on April 4th confirmed that the corporate name Twitter Inc. “no longer exists.” as reported by Forbes' Brian Bushard. The company informed partners at the time to refer to the business entity as 'X Corp.,' in all official communications moving forward.
