In the early morning hours on Wednesday, anti-Israel agitators violently clashed with counterprotesters at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), leading to the LAPD being called to the scene to break up the brawl seen on the campus. The violence prompted university administrators to cancel classes for the nearly 45,000 attending students.
"Due to the distress caused by the violence that took place on Royce Quad late last night and early this morning, all classes are canceled today. Please avoid the Royce Quad area," the university announced. The Royce Quad area has been occupied by anti-Israel demonstrators in recent days, and footage has gone viral on social media showing a Jewish girl being beaten unconscious by the agitators. The demonstrators have also blocked Jewish students from getting to class or moving through the quad to get to dorms and other university facilities.
"Many of the demonstrators, as well as counter-demonstrators who have come to the area, have been peaceful in their activism. But the tactics of others have frankly been shocking and shameful," UCLA chancellor Gene Block said in a statement on Tuesday. "UCLA supports peaceful protest, but not activism that harms our ability to carry out our academic mission and makes people in our community feel bullied, threatened, and afraid. These incidents have put many on our campus, especially our Jewish students, in a state of anxiety and fear."
"We have significantly increased our security presence in the area, including adding greater numbers of law enforcement officers, safety personnel, and student affairs mitigators. We have also engaged law enforcement to investigate the recent acts of violence," he added. Despite these extra precautions, the added security didn't prevent mass violence from breaking out with counterprotesters leading to dozens of injuries and the intervention of police, as reported by National Review.
"The violence unfolding this evening at UCLA is absolutely abhorrent and inexcusable," Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) wrote on X. "LAPD has arrived on campus." LAPD moved into the campus and arrested dozens of students after declaring the encampment to be illegal, per Fox 11.
The events at UCLA came after authorities cracked down on student demonstrations nationwide at Ivy League universities like Columbia, Yale, Harvard, and other colleges.

No administration
No Karen Bass
No Lindsey Horvath
No Gavin Newsom
A complete failure of leadership from top to bottom, yet there will be zero repercussions, because it’s (D)ifferent. pic.twitter.com/RTI9guJbss
