On Monday evening, the Harris campaign attempted to mock 45th President Donald Trump during a town hall event in Oaks, Pennsylvania, that transitioned into a concert after two supporters suffered medical emergencies during the event. After taking some questions from the audience, Trump directed his staff to play music after the two medical episodes interrupted the event moderated by Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD).
After about 30 minutes of answering questions about the economy and other issues, President Trump ended the event by playing songs on the speakers, including "God Bless America," "Ave Maria," "YMCA," and other favorite songs. "The safety and well-being of President Trump's supporters is always his top priority," Trump campaign National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained to ABC News. "The two individuals who fainted were immediately given medical attention. As President Trump said tonight, they are great patriots."
Both President Trump and Gov. Noem pointed out that heat was likely a factor in medical emergencies, prompting the 45th president to request that the Secret Service open the venue doors to get more air into the room. "Open the doors. I wish we could open those doors to outside. For security reasons, they can't. But you know what I suggest? Open them. Because anybody comes through those doors, you know what will happen to them," Trump said. "Personally, I enjoy this. We lose weight, you know. No, you lose weight. We could do this -- lose four or five pounds."
"Let's not do any more questions. Let's just listen to music. Let's make it into a music fest. Who the hell wants to hear questions right? Isn't that beautiful?" Trump added.
Despite the Republican presidential candidate's efforts to put the well-being of his supporters first, the Harris campaign attempted to exploit the moment by reposting clips from the impromptu concert and trying to deceive the public that Trump ended the town hall with music because of his age. "Trump appears lost, confused, and frozen on stage as multiple songs play for 30+ minutes and the crowd pours out of the venue early," the Harris campaign wrote on X with Vice President Harris reposting the clip with the caption, "Hope he's okay."
ABC News fact-checked the Harris campaign's misleading claims, with reporter Terry Moran explaining that "people were having a good time. It did not seem out of the ordinary. It seemed almost intimate. And at the end, Trump did something he very rarely does: He came down off the stage and mingled with supporters. He was signing autographs, shaking hands, and the like."
