WATCH: After Kamala Harris Fails To Show, Trump Takes On 'Tough Questions' At 'Hostile' Black Journalism Conference

Following his Q&A panel with the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) on Wednesday, President Donald Trump was praised for his answers from allies and criticized for some of his more controversial remarks by the Harris campaign. The Q&A, hosted by ABC News correspondent Rachel Scott, Fox News's Harris Faulkner, and Semafor reporter Kadia Goba, was plagued with audio problems and cut short after multiple delays.

During the 35-minute panel, Trump attempted to lay out his vision for the country by focusing mostly on jobs and economic growth while dealing with hostile questions, particularly from ABC News reporter Rachel Scott. One of Trump's more controversial statements during the event was when he claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris, who was unable to attend the NABJ event due to a scheduling conflict, only recently began identifying as African-American. The comment received considerable backlash from the mainstream media and the Harris campaign.

"The hostility Donald Trump showed on stage today is the same hostility he has shown throughout his life, throughout his term in office, and throughout his campaign for president as he seeks to regain power and inflict his harmful Project 2025 agenda on the American people," the Harris campaign said in a statement, falsely claiming that Project 2025 is Trump's agenda. Agenda 47 is the official agenda of the Trump campaign, and the Trump Team's campaign managers have repeatedly denied any connections between the campaign and the organization responsible for the platform, The Heritage Foundation.

The Harris campaign argued that Trump's performance was divisive and demanded that Trump participate in a debate on September 10. "Trump lobbed personal attacks and insults at Black journalists the same way he did throughout his presidency - while he failed Black families and left the entire country digging out of the ditch he left us in. Donald Trump has already proven he cannot unite America, so he attempts to divide us," the Harris for President campaign argued. "Today's tirade is simply a taste of the chaos and division that has been a hallmark of Trump's MAGA rallies this entire campaign. It's also exactly what the American people will see from across the debate stage as Vice President Harris offers a vision of opportunity and freedom for all Americans. All Donald Trump needs to do is stop playing games and actually show up to the debate on September 10."

While Democrats attempted to attack Trump for his performance, the president's running mate praised him for his answers in a tough environment. "President Trump walked right into the NABJ conference and showed he had the courage to take tough questions, while Kamala Harris continues to hide from any scrutiny or unfriendly media like the coward she is," Vance wrote.

"I commend my friend [President Donald Trump] for going into a hostile environment at [NABJ] today and answering tough questions," former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson posted. "What time does VP Harris get to Chicago? That's right, she didn't show up because most of the "journalists" in that room already do her bidding for her."
