WATCH: Barstool Sports Founder Dave Portnoy Raises $1.5 Million For Family Of Fallen NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller

On Thursday, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy announced that he had raised $1.5 million for the family of fallen New York City Police Officer Jonathan Diller, who was tragically gunned down during a routine traffic stop on Monday. Portnoy, who has long supported law enforcement, said that he would match the $750,000 raised via the purchase of t-shirts emblazoned with the words "New York's Finest."

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Officer Diller, and his partner were carrying out a traffic stop on two suspects for parking at a bus stop. One of the suspects, identified as 34-year-old Guy Rivera, who was illegally in possession of a firearm, decided he didn't want to return to prison, so he opened fire and hit Diller beneath his protective vest. His partner opened fire on the suspect, striking him in the back. Once Rivera was apprehended, officers quickly rushed Diller to Jamaica Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect, who has had 21 prior arrests, was also taken to Jamaica Hospital and is in stable condition.

Following the heinous crime, Portnoy took to X to begin a fundraising campaign, telling his 3.1 million followers in a video on X, "I'm sure everybody has seen this story. Tragic. The New York City cop, Jonathan Diller, who was murdered. Routine traffic stop. Pull over two guys. A million priors. Been in and out of jail a million times, and they basically opened fire basically on them. Again, [it was a] routine traffic stop. Tragic. Leaves behind a one-year-old child and his wife."

"Every penny that we make goes to the family," he explained. "On top of that, whatever we sell, whatever we make, at the end of the day today, at midnight, I'm just going to match it. So, double up on whatever we can make. I know money doesn't cure this. Nothing can cure this, but it's the least we can do. Barstool and myself have a long history of supporting the cops, supporting the boys in blue, and supporting first responders. It is tragic. These guys go out and risk their lives. Routine traffic stop, and these two f*cking scumbags who should be in prison, don't know why they're out, take a life. It is just awful, so whatever we can do to support them, we will."

In addition to the $1.5 million raised by Portnoy for the family, a GoFundMe campaign has raised over $550,000 for Diller's widow and his one-year-old son. Following the shooting, hundreds of NYPD officers and New York firefighters gathered to salute their fallen colleague on Monday evening. Many of New York's finest will attend Diller's wake on Long Island alongside 45th President Donald Trump.

"Our hearts are heavy as we honor our fallen brother, Police Officer Jonathan Diller. We pray for his family and brothers and sisters in blue as we cope with this immense loss," NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban wrote on X. "Thank you to all those who helped our grieving department transfer Jonathan with the respect he deserved."
