WATCH: Biden Challenger Drops Out Of The Race - 'This One Campaign Is Over Now'

On Wednesday evening, Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson ended her bid for the Democratic nomination against President Joe Biden. Williamson, who also ran for the nomination in 2020, never escaped the single digits against the sitting president. She only was able to get two percent support in the South Carolina primary earlier this week.

In a video posted to X, the self-help author explained that her campaign, which largely mirrored progressive priorities, was able to highlight the various injustices in American society. Williamson focused much of her campaign on the same platform that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) pursued against Biden in 2020. This strategy, however, did not bear fruit.

"I read a quote the other day that said sunsets are proof that endings can be beautiful too," Williamson said. "And so today, even though it is time to suspend my campaign for the presidency, I do want to see the beauty, and I want all of you who incredibly supported me on this journey as donors, as supporters, as a team, and as volunteers to see the beauty too."

"We did what we could to shed some light in some very darkened times," she continued. "The arc of history is what matters and the ideas that we stood for...This one campaign is over now, but that larger arc of American history goes on, and it is my deepest hope that we in some way contributed to that larger story."

Williamson's campaign was regularly plagued by staffing problems and fundraising issues, making her ability to credibly challenge Biden slim. Making matters worse for her campaign was the fact that the Democratic National Committee refused to hold debates, which was the main motivation for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to leave the Democratic primary and seek an independent bid.

Williamson's political future is unknown, but she will continue to publish books in the near future. Her next book, The Mystic Jesus: The Mind of Love, will be released in May.
