WATCH: Biden 'Willfully Retained' Classified Documents In Multiple Locations As Ghostwriter Destroyed Evidence, Robert Hur Testifies

On Tuesday, special counsel Robert Hur testified before the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee to discuss his report on President Joe Biden's mishandling of classified documents. During his testimony, Hur refuted the White House's claims that the president takes classified documents seriously and that he did not mishandle them following the end of his vice presidency in 2017.

"My team and I conducted a thorough, independent investigation. We identified evidence that the president willfully retained classified materials after the end of his vice presidency when he was a private citizen," Hur said during his opening statement. "This evidence included an audio-recorded conversation during which Mr. Biden told his ghostwriter that he had 'just found all the classified stuff downstairs.' When Mr. Biden said this, he was a private citizen speaking to his ghostwriter in his private rental home in Virginia. We also identified other recorded conversations during which Mr. Biden read classified information aloud to his ghostwriter."

Later on in the eharing, Hur would acknowledge that President Biden kept classified documents in multiple locations across multiple states including in the Penn Biden Center at the University of Pennsylvania, in the garage, den, basement, and office of his personal home in Wilmington, Delaware, at the University of Delaware, and at the Biden Institute in Newark, Delaware.

Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) laid out the evidence of Biden's wrongdoing in his opening statement, telling those in attendance that the president's ghostwriter knowingly destroyed evidence once the special counsel was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in January 2023 and that Biden willfully retained documents to use them for an $8 million book deal. "'Joe Biden risked serious damage to America's national security when he shared information with his ghostwriter. The guy who was helping Joe Biden get $8 million," Jordan said. "Oh, and by the way, Mr. Hur, what did that ghostwriter do with that information that Joe Biden shared with him on his laptop after you were named special counsel?"

"He slid those files into his recycle bin on his computer," Hur responded. Jordan then asked Hur if he had tried to destroy the evidence, to which Hur responded, "Correct."
