On Wednesday, a Democrat voter from Louisiana called into C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" program to give his thoughts on the attempted assassination of 45th President Donald Trump. The caller, however, was abruptly cut off by the show when he began to praise the two gunmen that had attempted to murder the Republican candidate, first at Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13 and again at Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday.
The clip of the interaction between host John McArdle and "Willie from Louisiana" went viral on social media after the man explained that the shooters were in the right for taking a shot at Trump. "Good morning. I just want to say I'm a very patriotic American. I did 20 years in the military, two tours in Vietnam, wounded in 1966 went back to 68. And I look at myself…and to see we let this man Trump destroy America," the Louisiana resident stated. "And I look at it and say, well, these two people had to step up and take that shot!"
"I'm sorry, Willie. You're not advocating violence, are you?" McArdle asked, according to Mediaite.
"Not violence. I'm talking about defending my country," the Democrat voter said in response before he was disconnected from the program. In response to the incident, the Trump campaign explained that the caller's argument stemmed from the "unhinged rhetoric" of Democrats. "Disgusting. A Democrat caller was just cut off on CSPAN after praising the attempted assassinations of President Trump," the campaign stated. "This is what the unhinged rhetoric coming from the Democrat Party has done."
The self-identified Democrat's praise of the two shooters, Thomas Matthew Crooks and Ryan Routh, comes after the mainstream media and the Democratic Party attempted to downplay the attempt on Trump's life over the weekend. Following the shooting on Sunday evening, NBC News host Lester Holt seemed to blame the attempted attack on Trump's recent comments about Springfield, Ohio. "Today's apparent assassination attempt comes amid increasingly fierce rhetoric on the campaign trail. Mr. Trump, his running mate JD Vance, continue to make baseless claims about Haitian immigrants in Ohio," Holt said.
Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) also blamed the Republican candidate's rhetoric for the attempted assassination, explaining on CNN, "This really seems to be the confluence of two very bad things going on in the Republican Party ... the attempts to divide, to enrage the population."
Rachel Vindman, the wife of 2019 impeachment witness Alexander Vindman, wrote on X, "No ears were harmed. Carry on with your Sunday afternoon." She later doubled down, writing, "Sorry you're triggered. I mean, no, I'm not. I don't care a little bit." She later apologized for her comments after intense pushback, "I have deleted my tweet. It was flippant & political violence is a serious issue. Whether it's aimed at a former president, the media, immigrants, or political 'enemies' & every incident should be addressed appropriately if we want to change the tenor of our political discourse."
In a press release, the Trump campaign provided dozens of examples of how Democrat rhetoric "egged on" the would-be assassin to plot the 45th president's murder. "Yesterday, President Donald J. Trump was the target of a second assassination attempt in as many months," Team Trump wrote. "Thankfully, the would-be assassin was stopped by the heroic action of law enforcement — but make no mistake, this psycho was egged on by the rhetoric and lies that have flowed from Kamala Harris, Democrats, and their Fake News allies for years."

What's SCARY about this is that these people see NO problem with it, in fact they feel that it is a "patriotic duty." pic.twitter.com/u5iNjbfrxr
