On Wednesday, during a speech at the Heritage Foundation regarding foreign policy, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) was interrupted by a climate protestor.
While addressing the dangers posed by the Chinese military and the looming threat of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, a woman took to the stage, holding a handwritten sign that stated, “People [and] planet, not war [and] aggression,” and attempted to interrupt Senator Hawley’s speech.
Someone just ran on stage and interrupted Josh Hawley's speech at the Heritage Foundation.
"China is not our enemy! The climate crisis is!"

“I think you’re forgetting that we have the largest military in the world. We spend over $1 trillion every year in this state, and your state of Missouri… over half the people are in poverty.” The unidentified woman said as she crossed the stage towards Senator Hawley.
Yet just as quickly as she made it onto the stage, she was quickly rushed off the stage, as security came and escorted her out of the venue.
“China’s not our enemy, the climate crisis is,” she stated as she was escorted off the stage, which was met with a chorus of laughter from those in attendance.
As she was escorted off of the stage, Senator Hawley, who looked visibly amused by the whole situation, went back to his speech, stating, “It’s interesting this administration wants to use the climate crisis as a justification for its agenda in Ukraine and elsewhere. Maybe they ought to visit with that gal.”
After the speech, Senator Hawley took to Twitter to state his amusement at the whole ordeal, “This was so fun.”

The President of The Heritage Foundation, Dr. Kevin Roberts, also took to Twitter to discuss what took place. “China—not the “climate crisis”—is our greatest adversary.”

Thank you, @HawleyMO, for a great conversation on what our international priorities ought to be. pic.twitter.com/4i2lLxm0iF

“Even if China wasn’t the world’s worst polluter—which it is—the idea that climate change is a greater threat than the CCP is idiotic.” Roberts would another tweet.

What’s more foolish–this admin’s willingness to ignore real threats from China b/c they want a political win on climate. https://t.co/9jBd5gagAs
