WATCH: CNBC Host Slams Kamala Harris For Not Taking Questions From The Press - 'A Master Class In Avoiding Any Questions'

During an interview on CNBC on Monday, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo attempted to claim that Vice President Kamala Harris has been "crystal clear" on what she stands for in the 2024 race and that she's constantly talking to people to explain what she's fighting for. "Squawk Box" anchor Joe Kernan, however, wasn't letting Raimondo get away with the claim, explaining that Harris has given the public a "master class" on avoiding media scrutiny.

"I think she's been crystal clear on her values, what she wants to fight for, and how she will do it. And also, you know, she talks to people. She's reaching out to me. She's reaching out to businesses," Raimondo said before Kernan stopped her in her tracks.

"She hasn't talked to the press, Gina. I know you're a surrogate, but the American people are frustrated; the media is frustrated by the amount of access anyone's gotten to her in the last 41 days. I know you've seen that," he said. "We are finally going to have a debate tomorrow night, but she sat down for one video that was taped and cut down, and certain little things have come out from it."

"But it's been a master class in avoiding any questions. And nothing has been made clear by her. Maybe it has been made clear in dribs and drabs from her policymakers when it comes out in print or off a teleprompter in one of her scripted speeches," Kernan explained. "She's been impossible to be pinned down on anything because she hasn't been given any access. The American people deserve it."

Kernan's rebuke of Raimondo's attempts to gaslight the American people into thinking that she's been open to the public about her policy priorities is how the press should be handling anyone from the Harris campaign. The vice president's campaign posted a policy page over a month after entering the race and just two days before the presidential debate against 45th President Donald Trump. Vice President Harris hasn't held a press conference to explain where she stands on the issues. In stark contrast, Trump has held multiple events to take questions from the press in recent weeks. While Harris and Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) have sat for a single interview the entire campaign, Trump has done multiple hour-long podcasts with independent creators, and Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) has sat down with the networks for numerous interviews.

The American people deserve transparency and the ability to hear directly from the candidates what they believe and how they will fix the country's problems.
