WATCH: Democrat Joe Manchin Gives Cryptic Answer to Whether He Will Stay With His Party

West Virginia’s iconoclastic Democrat Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), who has recently made a career of enraging his own party and briefly becoming public enemy #2 to the left couldn’t seem to call himself a Democrat during a Sunday interview.

Manchin joined Fox News “Sunday Morning Futures” host Maria Bartiromo and pivoted from a pointed question about his party allegiance to a call for national bipartisan unity leaving Americans asking: Is he a Democrat or not?

When Bartiromo asked whether he intended to run for President in 2024 Manchin replied,

“My main concern is how do we bring this country together? How do we make it work?”

In no way did he actually answer the question. He continued, “How do we make Democrats, Republicans become Americans again, and not just party affiliates?”

Bartiromo asked him multiple iterations of the same question: “Do you still identify as a Democrat?”

“I identify as an American,” Manchin told Bartiromo. “I’m an American through and through.”

DEM SEN. JOE MANCHIN DEALS MAJOR BLOW TO BIDEN’S CLIMATE CHANGE AGENDA

During the same interview, Manchin vociferously defended the ‘Inflation Reduction Act‘ that he was instrumental in passing, giving Biden and Senate Democrats a policy ‘win’ to cling to in the mid-term elections and strongly defended U.S. involvement in the Russo-Ukrainian conflict.

In a Senate where every seat is critical with a 51-49 majority for the Democrats, if Manchin were to change parties it could tip the balance of the Senate into a nearly unmanageable 50-50 split as it was following the 2020 election cycle. Were Manchin to switch parties and convince Arizona Democrat turned Independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema, a frequent collaborator of his, to do likewise, it would overturn the majority giving the GOP full control over Congress.

A GOP switch would likely benefit the Senator as well, as The New York Post observed, West Virginia hasn’t voted for a Democratic president since Bill Clinton and in 2020 voted for former President Donald Trump by a comfortable 39-point margin.
