On Wednesday, Donald Trump Jr. joined conservative commentator Benny Johnson to discuss the state of the 2024 race and the recent revelation that independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is considering dropping out of the race at the end of the week. Trump Jr. stated that he would be happy to have Kennedy join the Trump campaign and be placed into a Cabinet position if the Trump-Vance ticket wins the White House in November.
"I know RFK...We don't agree about everything but I think he'd actually be a great person to put in on certain agencies and let him go to town. Let him blow stuff up. Let him fix the stuff. He's incredibly well versed on a lot of things, and understandably, like me and my family, he probably has a gripe with some of the government," Trump Jr. said. "That's a solid motivation to actually get things done. It also shows some unity that I'd love to see on these tickets. Guys that maybe don't agree on everything say, 'No, we understand the common goal is to stop Communism, Socialism from taking over our country.'"
"If you see that kind of coming together to fight a common enemy," he explained, adding that a Harris presidency would be a repeat of the last three and a half years of the Biden administration. When asked about a potential post as the director of the CIA, Trump Jr. explained that he "could think of a dozen roles I'd love to see him in. I think that would be great."
Trump Jr.'s remarks come after the Kennedy campaign announced that the 70-year-old environmental lawyer would address the nation on Friday in Pheonix, Arizona, to reveal his "path forward" in the presidential race. As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, President Trump said that he would welcome Kennedy Jr.'s endorsement and that a potential role in the executive branch would be on the table.
"I would love that endorsement because I've always liked him. He's a brilliant guy. He's a very smart guy. I've known him for a very long time," Trump said. "I didn't know he was thinking about getting out, but if he is thinking about getting out, I'd certainly be open to it. I like him a lot. I respect him a lot. I probably would if something like that would happen."
Rumors of a potential Kennedy exit from the race began to circulate after his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, said that the duo are considering either endorsing Trump or trying to form a third party that could compete in 2028. "There are two options that we're looking at, and one is staying in, forming that new party, but we run the risk of a Kamala Harris and [Tim] Waltz presidency because we draw votes from Trump," she said on a recent podcast. "Or we walk away right now and join forces with Donald Trump … and we explain to our base why we're making this decision."
