On Thursday, leading Republican presidential candidate and 45th President Donald Trump joined 'The Megyn Kelly Show' with Megyn Kelly to discuss a range of topics on the minds of voters as 2024 approaches.
One of the main topics of discussion was the opening of an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden by Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). Kelly asked Trump his thoughts on the inquiry and the potential impact it would have on rallying Democrats as it did for Trump following his indictments.
"Look, he's a horrible president. Our country is going to hell. Whether it's impeachment or not impeachment this man is destroying our country at the border. He's destroying it economically. Inflation is way up now, you see what happened just today," Trump said in reference to the latest inflation numbers at 3.7%.
"That's up to them whether they want to do an impeachment or an impeachment inquiry," Trump said, adding that Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) didn't even hold an impeachment inquiry when he was impeached. Trump also took the time to say that Sen. Romney's (R-UT) decision not to run for reelection is good for the country.
"I think had they not done it to me...perhaps you wouldn't have it being done with them," Trump explained. "And this is going to happen with indictments too. They're fake indictments and I think you are going to see that as time goes by. You're going to see Republicans when they are in power doing it. It's a shame when it happens. I'm not in favor of that but that's what's going to happen because that's human nature."
Trump went on to explain that he would "think about it differently" if given the opportunity to turn the tables on the Democrats but he said that it doesn't mean that he would do it to his political opponents.
He went on to explain that the "fake indictments" make the United States look bad, so much so that Russian President Vladimir Putin used the indictments as an example of what "a rotten country" the United States has become.
The topic of conversation then turned to the fact that Trump attempted to out Biden's corruption when he ran against him in 2020 with Kelly asking, "Why do you think that didn't gain traction."
"Well, it's different when it's a Republican doing it and a Democrat. The press is fake news," he said. "I've also shown that the press is fake. If I say something, even if it's true, they don't want to talk about it. You know, it's really what they don't talk about more than what they talk about. They don't talk about things."
Trump recounted the 2020 presidential debate in which Trump attempted to question Biden about his acceptance of money from the widow of the mayor of Moscow.
"The mayor of Moscow's wife gave him three and a half million dollars. I want to find out why, what did he do to earn this money," Trump concluded.
