During a House hearing on the crisis at the southern border on Wednesday, former San Diego Border Patrol Chief Aaron Heitke revealed that the Biden-Harris administration worked to hide an increase of terrorist-tied illegal migrants crossing from Mexico into California in recent years. Heitke explained that his sector saw an increase in "significant interest aliens (SIAs)," which he defined as those with ties to terrorist organizations.
"At the time, I was told I could not release any information on this increase in SIAs or mention any of the arrests. The administration was trying to convince the public there was no threat at the border," he explained. "Once word was out the border was far easier to cross, San Diego went to over 100 SIAs in 2022, well over that in 2023 and even more than that registered this year. These are only the ones we caught."
In addition to revealing to the House committee that he was ordered not to release information on migrants suspected to have ties to terrorism, the former Border Patrol chief stated that planes were used to ferry migrants to other communities to prevent the media from noticing the large influx of newcomers. "I had to release illegal aliens by the hundreds each day into communities who could not support them. To quiet the problem, two flights a week were provided from San Diego to Texas," he said. "These flights simply brought aliens that would have been released in San Diego over to Texas."
The Biden-Harris administration's efforts to hide the number of terrorist-tied illegal migrants coming into the country poses a major security threat and could lead to devastating consequences. Earlier this year, the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested eight individuals with ties to ISIS-K in New York City, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia. The eight men were able to cross the border illegally and pass a background check without being held by border officials. One of the men utilized the CBP One app, which migrants use to claim asylum and book a hearing, to enter the country.
During congressional testimony earlier this year, FBI Director Christopher Wray warned about the potential threat of a terrorist attack by ISIS-K in the United States. "Our most immediate concern has been that individuals or small groups will draw twisted inspiration from the events in the Middle East to carry out attacks here at home," he told the House Appropriations Committee. "But now, increasingly concerning is the potential for a coordinated attack here in the homeland, akin to the ISIS-K attack we saw at the Russia concert hall a couple weeks ago."
