On Sunday, Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) revealed that since the Lone Star State began erecting razor wire along the southern border near Eagle Pass, Texas, illegal migrant crossings have decreased from thousands per day to just three per day. The revelation comes after the Supreme Court lifted a ban that prevented the federal government from removing Texas' border barriers at Shelby Park, an island that The Texas National Guard and Texas Department of Public Safety heavily fortified.
Gov. Abbott told Maria Bartiromo on 'Sunday Morning Futures' that he has the support of dozens of other governors nationwide to secure the southern border as the Biden administration sits idly by. "[Governors] are rallying around Texas to support our ongoing right to self-defense, and the deployment of this razor wire that has led to a massive reduction in inflow. The area where we have occupied this park in Eagle Pass, Texas, that we put up the razor wire, there used to be 3,000 or 4,000 people crossing that area a day."
"For the past three days, we have averaged just three people crossing that area. The point is: If we put up resistance, we show that we can secure the border. Joe Biden should not be stopping that," Abbott said. "More than half of the governors are now joined together in support of a very important proposition. And that is: We are guaranteed by the United States Constitution the right of self-defense if states face imminent harm or invasion."
Governor Abbott was joined by 13 other governors on Sunday to discuss the ongoing crisis. Those in attendance include Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-AR), Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA), Governor Brad Little (R-ID), Governor Eric Holcomb (R-IN), Governor Kim Reynolds (R-IA), Governor Jeff Landry (R-LA), Governor Tate Reeves (R-MI), Governor Mike Parson (R-MO), Governor Greg Gianforte (R-MT), Governor Jill Pillen (R-NE), Governor Chris Sununu (R-NH), Governor Bill Lee (R-TN), and Governor Spencer Cox (R-UT).
The federal government's inaction on the southern border has created a humanitarian crisis that is out of control. Republican governors have responded with bold action that has done more to secure the U.S.-Mexico border than at any point during Biden's presidency. Texas' razor wire is working as intended, and illegal migrants are being deterred from the Lone Star State. Now Biden must act to secure the rest of the border and deter further illegal immigration across the entire 1,954 miles.
