WATCH: Gunman's Weapon Jams After Attempting To Shoot Christian Preacher During Service - 'God Was Protecting That Man'

On Sunday, a gunman attempted to shoot Pastor Glenn Germany at the Jesus' Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock, Pennsylvania. However, despite his best efforts, the weapon jammed, and the pastor escaped the ordeal with no injuries in what many are calling a miracle from God. The entire incident was caught on the church's livestream.

The would-be murderer, 26-year-old Bernard Polite, can be seen on video approaching the pulpit and raising his weapon. The man attempted to shoot Germany as he dove for cover. However, the handgun jammed, and the man was tackled to the ground by a parishioner. "He could have lost his life in that struggle," the pastor said of the man who intervened. "But he sacrificed himself for everyone, and he's the hero."

"I'm thankful to God that I'm still here because he definitely pulled the trigger," the pastor told WTAE. "I started to begin to preach, and all of a sudden, from my left-hand side, I saw him move from the back to the front of the church, and he set up in the front corner of the church and smiled at me...All of a sudden, I just saw a gun pointing right at me. And at that point, all I could try to do is run for cover."

According to the authorities, Polite, who has a history of mental illness, reportedly attempted to kill the pastor because "God told him to do it." Police eventually searched Polite's residence following his arrest, where they discovered the body of one of the gunman's relatives.

Following the incident, the gunman was charged with aggravated assault and attempted homicide, and he has been denied bail. Polite is currently residing in Allegheny County Jail and has a hearing scheduled for later this month.

In response to the viral footage of the incident, many on social media said that Germany was saved by God, with one X user commenting, "Pastor Glenn recognizes we're in a spiritual war and he was protected by the Holy Spirit. Powerful testimony during a time when many of us still think we're in a battle of flesh and blood." Another X user linked the incident with the increase in mental illness in the country, posting, "That man is lucky to be alive!!  If this country would stop ignoring mental illness, and definitely stop celebrating it, things like this would would happen much less frequently. Our country is in a sad state right now."

Pastor Germany is lucky to be alive and has God to thank for the miraculous firearm failure that saved his life. Hopefully, Polite will be behind bars for many years following the attack.
