WATCH: Hunter Biden Speaks Out On Capitol Hill Ahead Of Showdown With Republicans

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, revealed that he would refuse to sit for a closed-door deposition in Congress after being subpoenaed by House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) last month. Instead of appearing before the committee, the 53-year-old Biden held a press conference to demand that he be given the opportunity to testify publicly rather than appear in a closed-door session.

Instead of appearing for his deposition, which was scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Hunter slammed Republicans outside of the Capitol to the press. "They belittled my recovery, and they have tried to dehumanize me, all to embarrass my father, who has devoted his entire life to public service," he said. "For six years, I have been a target of the unrelenting Trump attack team. ‘Where’s Hunter?’ Well, here’s my answer. I am here."

The president's son continued to double down on the idea that Joe Biden was not involved in his various businesses, particularly in relation to his appointment to the board of Burisma Holdings and various projects that Hunter was involved in with Chinese businessmen. "No evidence to support that my father was financially involved in my business because it did not happen," Hunter said.

"Republicans have lied over and over about every aspect about my personal and professional life. So much so, that the false facts are believed by too many people," he continued. "They have taken the light of my dad’s love for and presented it as darkness. They have no shame." He then argued that House Republicans were "engaged in unprecedented political interference" and that he is there to testify publicly rather than privately.

"Yet here I am, Mr. Chairmen—taking up your offer…I’ve chosen. I am here to testify at a public hearing today to answer any of the committee’s legitimate questions. Republicans do not want an open process where Americans can see their tactics, expose their baseless inquiry, or hear what I have to say," he said, adding in conclusion, "What are they afraid of? I’m here. I’m ready,"

In response to the blatant disregard for the congressional subpoena, Chairman Comer announced that he would depose the president's son and "be more than happy to have a public hearing with him."
