On Wednesday, Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) humiliated his congressional colleague Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) during a hearing led by the Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement.
Prior to the clip’s start, Rep. Swalwell was questioning witness Sheena Rodriguez, a border security advocate, about her presence on the Capitol grounds on January 6th, according to The New York Post.
Following this, Rep. Nehls seemed to have enough and took Swalwell to task by humiliating the Democrat for his ‘checkered past’ with a Chinese spy.
“I apologize that you had to — you’re here for a hearing on the border, they don’t want to talk about a border,” he told the witness.
“Mr. Swalwell is down there, obviously everyone knows he’s made some comments. He’s got a checkered past. His alleged relationship –“ Nehls said before Swalwell interrupted him.
“I’m sorry, a checkered past?” the California Democrat asked.
“It’s my time!” Nehls said in response. “Alleged affairs — relationship — with Yum-Yum,” Nehls said in reference to a Chinese spy that Swalwell had a close relationship with.
“No, no, no, no, no,” Swalwell yelled at the Texan. “You do not get to say that s–t. That’s not true.”
“He had alleged relationships with Yum-Yum,” Nehls attempted to say as Swalwell and other Democrats shouted over him, adding, “and now he’s angry.”
The Democrats then moved to strike Nehls’ comments from the record leading the chairman of the subcommittee to call for a recess.
As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Swalwell was found to have close ties with a Chinese spy named Fang Fang back in 2020.
The security risk posed by Swalwell was so drastic that Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) threw him off the House Intelligence Committee in January.
“I was very clear early on. Let me phrase something very direct to you. If you got the briefing that I got from the FBI, you wouldn’t have Swalwell on any committee,” McCarthy explained at the time. “And you’re going to tell me that other Democrats couldn’t fill that slot. He cannot get a security clearance in the private sector.”
“So would you like to give him a government clearance?” McCarthy asked hypothetically. “Not only was he getting a clearance, he was inside an Intel Committee. He had more information than the majority of all the members. Did you ever raise that issue? No, but you should have.”
This isn’t the first time that Swalwell has been humiliated either. Earlier this month, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) pulled a similar move.
“That was quite entertaining from someone that had a sexual relationship with a Chinese spy and everyone knows it,” Greene said during a hearing with Swalwell before being interrupted.
It seems like Swalwell’s past isn’t going away and Republicans are happy to humiliate him for it when given the chance.
