In what is now a daily occurrence, 81-year-old President Joe Biden seemed to malfunction during a White House event on Tuesday to announce new legal protections for hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants. The verbal mix-up is just the most recent example of senior moments that have plagued the president in recent weeks, prompting the White House to falsely claim that the footage of the president's blunders is a "cheap fake."
During the announcement, Biden seemed to trail off when he introduced Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, leading his speech to deteriorate into unintelligible rambling for a few seconds. The mistake, which has gone viral on social media, is the latest example of the president's public blunders.
During the White House press briefing on Monday, Karine Jean-Pierre claimed that the embarrassing videos of the 81-year-old Democrat were "cheap fakes" meant to fool the American people. "Yeah. We, and I think you all have called this the 'cheap fakes video,' and that's exactly what they are. They are cheap fakes video. They are done in bad faith," the Biden press secretary told the press, adding that right-wing press lacks credibility because fact-checking organizations claim they push "misinformation and disinformation."
"Let's not forget President Obama and President Biden have a relationship. They are friends. They're like family to each other, and I think that's what you saw," the White House spokeswoman said about a recent video showing Biden freeze up while on stage during a Los Angeles fundraiser with former President Barack Obama. Following a sit-down interview between late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, Obama, and Biden, the president was seen staring blankly into the crowd with his arms limp at his sides. After President Obama gave a few waves to the crowd, he grabbed Biden's right hand and gingerly walked him off the stage as he put his arm around his former vice president.
The direct video evidence, however, didn't stop Jean-Pierre from attacking the media for simply reporting reality. "Instead of talking about the President's performance in office, and what I mean by that is his legislative wins, what he's been able to do for the American people across the country, we're seeing these deep fakes, these manipulated videos, and it is again done in that faith... Several recent fakes actually attacked the president for thanking troops," she said, referencing a recent video from the G7 Summit in Italy when Biden wandered off from the group of world leaders to speak to parachuters before Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was forced to pull the president back in for a photo.
