WATCH: Journalist Behind Twitter Files Matt Taibbi Joins Joe Rogan to Talk Elon Musk, Exposing Censorship – ‘He Spent $44 Billion to Become A Whistleblower of His Own Company’

On Monday, independent journalist Matt Taibbi joined ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ to discuss his recent work publishing ‘The Twitter Files’ following Elon Musk’s takeover of the company last October.

During the interview, Taibbi praised Musk for his bold action in exposing what occurred on Twitter during the presidency of Donald Trump and the multiple instances of censorship for political purposes.

“I don’t think anybody ever anticipated that something like this would happen where Twitter would get sold to an eccentric billionaire who is intent on letting all the information get released,” Rogan commented.

“Elon Musk essentially spent $44 billion to become a whistleblower of his own company,” said the journalist. “I don’t really fully know his motives in doing that but I think he’s got a pretty developed sense of humor though and that comes through. He gets a kick out of seeing all this stuff come out on Twitter which used to be the private stomping ground of all these whiny journalists. Now here is all this information that is just horrifying to all of them. $44 billion is a lot to spend on that thrill, but I’m glad he did.”

“He truly believes that censored social media is a threat to democracy,” Rogan responded. “And I believe it too. I just don’t have $44 billion, and even if I did, I would be like, ahh, I don’t want that heat.”

“Absolutely. I don’t think that’s what I would spend it on but he believes that. He also believes the credibility of these companies can only be restored by telling people what they have been talking about in private with the government. He might be right about that. We will see, I guess.”

“I think he is. I mean it’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out. There’s an amazing amount of resistance against him. The publicity campaign against him has been fascinating to watch people go from thinking Elon Musk is this savior that’s bringing us these amazing electric cars and engineering new renewable rockets to he’s an alt-right piece of sh*t who wants Donald Trump back in the office. It’s very wild.”

“The speed with which they can sort of shuffle somebody into the Hitler of the month club routine, right?” Taibbi said. “We’ve always done this with foreigners…We have a playbook for cranking out negative information about foreigners who get in our way for whatever reason. But now we have defined that technique for domestic people who are inconvenient. They did it with Trump obviously. They tried to do it with Tucker Carlson. With you, you got a taste of that. With Elon, he went from being the guy who made electric cars sexy to something to the right of Viktor Orbán in ten seconds. It’s amazing.”

“It’s amazing and the narrative is spread through progressive people where they will just say it now. The memo got to them and then they just…I hear people in LA, I hear people I know saying ‘Oh Elon is just so crazy. Something happened to him, he went nuts and he’s a right-winger now.’ How? What are you saying? What examples do you have? They don’t have an example they just have a narrative that reached them. Like ‘Elon bad now.'”

In response to the segment, Musk tweeted “Well-said” and “RIP Cancel Culture, you won’t be missed.”

With the end of Silicon Valley’s rule over the social media giant, users can finally voice their opinions freely and not fear political censorship. Musk’s bold move to protect freedom of speech via his pocketbook will preserve the free flow of ideas and strengthen American democracy.
