On Tuesday, Emily Kohrs, the forewoman of the jury currently overseeing a trial against 45th President Donald Trump, made multiple press appearances throwing the unbiased nature of the jury into question and certainly giving President Trump’s lawyers a gift.
As reported by the New York Times, included in her various interviews was the revelation that multiple people will be recommended for an indictment saying that “It is not a short list.”
Clips of her interviews have gone viral with one seemingly showcasing a giddy Kohrs being excited to potentially swear in President Trump:
“I wanted to hear from the former president but honestly I kind of wanted to subpoena the former president because I got to swear everyone in,” the juror said during an interview with MSNBC. “So I thought it would be really cool to get 60 seconds with President Trump of me looking at him and being like ‘do you solemnly swear…’ and me getting to swear him in. I just kind of thought that would be an awesome moment.”
Kohrs also took to CNN to discuss the case with the anchor asking what her reaction would be if the district attorney refused to bring charges.
“I would be sad if nothing happens. Like that’s about my only request there. I want something to happen. I don’t necessarily know what it is. I’m not the legal expert, I’m not the judge, I’m not the lawyer but I would be frustrated if nothing happens. This was too much. Too much information. Too much of my time. Too much of everyone’s time. Too much of their time. Too much argument in court about getting people to appear before us. There was just too much for this to just be ‘okay we’re good, bye.”
The multiple interviews are likely to be a boon for Trump’s defense with even CNN being forced to be critical of Kohrs remarks: “Why this person is talking on TV, I do not understand because she is clearly enjoying herself. But is this responsible? She was the foreperson of this grand jury?” asked Anderson Cooper.
“This is a horrible idea. And I guarantee you that prosecutors are wincing just watching her go on this,” said former Assistant US Attorney of the Southern District of New York Elie Honig. “This is a very serious prospect here. We’re talking about indicting any person you’re talking about taking away that person’s liberty. We’re talking about potentially a former president for the first time in this nation’s history. She does not seem to be taking that very seriously.”
“It’s a prosecutor’s nightmare. Mark my words, Donald Trump’s team is going to make a motion if there is an indictment to dismiss that indictment based on grand jury impropriety. She’s not supposed to be talking about anything really,” the former assistant U.S. attorney explained. “But she’s really not supposed to be talking about the deliberations. She’s talking about what specific witnesses she saw, and what the grand jury thought of them…I think she is potentially crossing a line here that is going to be a real problem for prosecutors.”
President Trump also had something to say about the Georgia case calling it a “witch hunt.” With Kohrs seemingly biased position, his characterization seems increasingly likely.
“This Georgia case is ridiculous, a strictly political continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt of all time,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Now you have an extremely energetic young woman, the (get this!) “foreperson” of the Racist D.A.’s Special Grand Jury, going around and doing a Media Tour revealing, incredibly, the Grand Jury’s inner workings & thoughts. This is not JUSTICE, this is an illegal Kangaroo Court. Atlanta is leading the Nation in Murder and other Violent Crimes. All I did is make TWO PERFECT PHONE CALLS!!!”
The juror’s willingness to go onto network television for her own fame shows just how fervent the effort is to oust President Trump.
LMFAO
How stupid is CNN to ask that question of the Georgia Grand Jury Foreperson?
And for her to answer it!pic.twitter.com/VuIC6bDZVb
