During a White House hurricane briefing on Wednesday, Vice President Kamala Harris was caught in an embarrassing moment when a staff member attempted to speak to her during the live broadcast. The meeting, conducted in anticipation of Category 4 Hurricane Milton making landfall on Wednesday evening, was hosted by President Joe Biden and included several of the administration's top officials.
During the 30-minute briefing, Harris told a staffer off-screen that the stream was a "live broadcast" as she covered her mouth and prepared to ask National Weather Service Director Ken Graham a question. The moment seemed to slip past those in attendance, but the Trump campaign pointed out the blunder on social media. "Kamala can be heard telling an aide (who is feeding her questions) that it's a 'live broadcast' before immediately asking the question. She's a total fraud," the Trump campaign wrote on X. Similar sentiments were forwarded by TPUSA CEO Charlie Kirk, who wrote, "Kamala is heard telling an aide who is feeding her questions, that it's a "live broadcast. She then asks the question she was presumably given. When you realize what a fraud this woman is, you can't unsee it."
"Kamala can't even do fake hurricane prep without acting like a fraud who's way out of her league," Rogan O'Handley wrote on X. This isn't the latest blunder by Harris surrounding her response to hurricanes. As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Harris has clashed with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in recent days after she argued that he was being "selfish" for not answering her calls despite the fact that she has not played a role in hurricane preparation and recovery at any other point in the administration.
The Democratic presidential candidate asserted to reporters on Monday that DeSantis wasn't putting the people first. "People are in desperate need of support right now, and playing political games at this moment in these crisis situations … is just utterly irresponsible, and it is selfish," Harris said. "It is about political gamesmanship, instead of doing the job that you took an oath to do, which is to put the people first."
In response to the comment, DeSantis explained during a Fox News interview that this is the first time he's ever received a call from Harris regarding hurricane relief. "I didn't know she tried to contact me. But I'd also say It's not about you, Kamala. It's about the people of Florida," DeSantis explained to Fox & Friends. "I've worked on these hurricanes under both President Trump and President Biden. Neither of them ever tried to politicize it. She has never called on any of the storms we've had since she's been vice president."
"Why all of a sudden is she trying to parachute in and inject herself when she's never showed any interest in the past? We know it's because of politics," the Florida governor said. "Harris is not even in the chain of command. She has no role in this!"
