On Thursday evening, a clip of former gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake (R-AZ) and Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) went viral after the two had an impromptu showdown at the Phoenix airport after the Democrat approached her after he challenged her to a discussion.
"Hey [Kari Lake] we're on the same plane! Just come back from first class to coach and we can chat," he wrote on X/Twitter. "Happy to walk you through all my legislative work to deliver key resources to AZ's border communities."
According to The Daily Caller, the two met near the baggage claim and almost immediately entered into a heated discussion about the border crisis currently overwhelming the state of Arizona.
“You’re gonna have a great race,” Gallego says to Lake. Lake announced her candidacy for Senate on Tuesday and is currently facing off against Sheriff Mark Lamb in the GOP primary. Rep. Gallego has also entered the race on the Democrat side while Sen. Kristen Sinema (I-AZ) will run as an independent.
“It’s going to be a knockdown drag out, and unfortunately our border is wide open … and even the Democrats are upset about it,” Lake said in response.
“I think there’s a lot we can still do and we’ve been doing some good work. I think there’s some common ground I could find out. Look, we need to figure out how to get people here legally, so they don’t go through the illegal manner,” the radical Democrat said in response.
"We have plenty of people here right now," Lake said in response. "We have millions of people here. Fentanyl has killed more young people … this is Ruben Gallego — our border is wide open — he’s trying to run for Senate, our borders are wide open, fentanyl is killing our young people."
Lake then went on to point out the growing homelessness problem in Gallego's district and the impact of fentanyl on the Copper State.
“This guy wants to destroy our country,” Lake said to a passerby. “I appreciate your service to our country. But I sure wish that you care more about our border. We’re a border state."
“I do care about the border, as a matter of fact, I would go down to the border with you,” the Democrat said in response. “Let’s talk to the mayors. Let’s get it together."
“Ruben, we have to finish the wall," Lake said before being repeatedly interrupted. "You do realize that President Trump was on the verge of finishing the border while he was doing it without support,” she continued before once again being interrupted. “May I finish? Do you just like to interrupt?”
“Mexico was supposed to pay for it and he never did,” Gallego said about the wall before Lake countered with the fact that Mexico provided soldiers and other assistance during the Trump administration. She then pressed Gallego on the fact that Biden sold millions of dollars worth of wall materials for pennies.
"Again, this is something that you and I can work together on," Gallego said before Lake responded with, "No. I'm not working together with you. I'm going to beat you. I'm going to beat you and we're going to save Arizona."
