WATCH: Karine Jean Pierre BREAKS DOWN Trying To Defend Biden's Border Wall Construction

On Wednesday evening, the Department of Homeland Security announced that the Biden administration would be building close to 20 miles of wall in Starr County, Texas as the migrant crisis continues to overrun the southern border and sanctuary cities across America.

Mayorkas announced up to 20 miles of construction as thousands of illegal migrants entered the United States by crossing the Rio Grande every day with the month of August being the highest migrant encounters on record at 300,000. He cited the "acute and immediate need" to deter "high illegal entry" that has been seen in recent weeks so much so that 26 federal laws were bypassed to begin construction.

The reversal comes after President Biden vowed to not build another foot of wall under his administration as his open border policies proliferated upon taking the oath of office in January 2021. Since that point, millions of illegal migrants have entered the country leading to border states like Texas and sanctuary cities like New York City feeling the brunt of the impact.

In response to DHS's decision, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre went into damage control as members of the president's own party and the press criticized the decision.

"Just to be clear about this, the president earlier today said, he was asked does the border wall works, and he said no," a reporter began. "But in this statement that was posted in the last 24 hours, the Department of Homeland Security secretary says, 'There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and rows in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States.' So who's right? The statement from the DHS secretary overnight or the president's comments today saying they don't work."

The press secretary seemed to not take the question well as she repeatedly tripped over her own words and regularly repeated herself in an attempt to answer the question. While the reporter continued to press her on whether or not President Biden disagrees with DHS, she continued to argue that she couldn't speak on that matter despite being the president's spokesperson.

She explained that Biden believes that walls do not work to deter illegal immigration but refused to make it clear whether he was at odds with Alejandro Mayorkas. The exchange concluded with Jean-Pierre saying that she would ask the president whether or not he disagreed with DHS.
