WATCH: Michelle Obama Says She's 'Terrified' About 2024 As Her Husband's Legacy Hangs In The Balance

On Monday, podcaster Jay Shetty's released the newest episode of his 'On Purpose' podcast featuring an interview with former First Lady Michelle Obama. During the interview, Obama revealed her thoughts on the upcoming 2024 election and shared that she is "terrified" about who the American people will choose to lead the country as Trump surges in the polls.

When asked what keeps her up at night, the 59-year-old Obama shared that the various wars throughout the world in Ukraine, Gaza, and elsewhere have a significant impact on her mental well-being, along with different other things outside of her control, including artificial intelligence, education, and voting.

"What keeps me up are the things that I know. The war in the region, in too many regions. What is AI going to do for us? The environment, you know, are we moving at all fast enough? What are we doing about education? Are people going to vote, and why aren't people voting? Are we too stuck to our phones? I mean, those are the things that keep me up because you don't have control over them, and you wonder where we are in this," she said. "Where are our hearts?"

"What's going to happen in this next election? I am terrified about what could possibly happen because our leaders matter," the former first lady explained. "Who we select, who speaks for us, who holds that bully pulpit, it affects us in ways that sometimes I think people take for granted. You know, the fact that people think that government, you know, does it really even do anything? And I'm like, 'Oh my God,' does the government do everything for us? We cannot take this democracy for granted, and sometimes I worry that we do. Those are the things that keep me up."

The fact that Michelle Obama is terrified about the potential for President Trump to return to the White House in 2025 shows the potential impact that the 45th president will have on the country and President Obama's legacy. Throughout his first term, President Trump actively sought to dismantle a large swath of the regressive policies implemented by Obama that were leading to America's decline. With his renewed interest in going after other aspects of Obama's legacy, such as Obamacare, in his second term, the potential consequences of another Trump term for the Obamas will be devastating.

Nevertheless, Trump dominates in the polls against President Biden, with the Real Clear Politics polling average having the leading Republican presidential candidate up 2.2 percentage points over the elderly Democrat. Americans are tired of the failing policies of Democrat leaders like Obama and Biden, and they yearn for a return to the common sense blueprint that made America into a prospering powerhouse under the Trump administration.
