On Friday, The Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York President Patrick Hendry expressed his outrage towards the seven illegal migrants who brutalized two NYPD officers on Saturday night. One of the migrants was then caught on video later mocking the police officers whom he brutalized.
"Why aren't they in jail right now? They brutally attacked a New York City police officer and a lieutenant," Hendry said. "Our criminal justice system is upside down! It fails every day." Hendry joins a number of other police officers who have demanded action from the city following the attack.
NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell told reporters on Wednesday that the migrants were "cowards" and that they carried out these acts of violence because "there are no consequences" for criminal behavior in the city. "You saw the video. Reprehensible. Cowards." Chell told reporters. "You have eight people attacking a lieutenant and a cop. Running up to them and trying to kick them in the face. Four were arrested on the scene. One was arrested last night. The four that were arrested should be sitting in Rikers right now, on bail. They should be indicted this week and taken off our streets. Do you want to know why our cops are getting assaulted? There are no consequences. We must change this. End of story."
As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, several migrants, including Boada, mercilessly beat two NYPD officers to the ground near Times Square on Saturday evening. Following the incident, the migrants were arrested and then released, without bail, back onto the streets of Manhattan.
Footage of the attack, which took place around 6:30 PM on Saturday on West 42nd Street, shows the NYPD officers asking the migrants to move before they were attacked. The two police officers were quickly surrounded by half a dozen attackers, leading to one officer being taken to the ground and repeatedly kicked in the chest and head. All the while, another officer defended his colleague from the onslaught, attempting to take down one of the attackers and support the downed officer.
While the officers were unsuccessful in apprehending any of the attackers in the initial assault, the NYPD would later apprehend the suspects, who were identified as 19-year-old Darwin Andres Gomez Izquiel, 19-year-old Kelvin Servat Arocha, 21-year-old Juarez Wilson, and 24-year-old Yorman Reveron. All of the men were in the United States via asylum.
One of the attackers, Yorman Reveron, currently has two open cases, one for assault and another for robbery, yet he still has been allowed to remain on the streets of the Big Apple. In November, he allegedly attacked a Nordstrom Rack employee after being caught shoplifting, and last month, he punched a Macy's security guard after being caught during a robbery with two others.
The men were taken into custody and charged with assault. However, all of them were released without bail. A fifth suspect, 22-year-old Jhoan Boada, was later arrested on Monday evening and was charged with attempted assault of a police officer. The officers involved received medical attention at the scene and only suffered minor injuries, such as small cuts and bruises.
Officers across the city were outraged after one of the migrants, 22-year-old Jhoan Boada, was seen flipping the bird to reporters after being released from the Midtown South Precinct on charges of assaulting a police officer and gang assault. Boada was seen smirking at the camera as he exited the building. Making matters even worse, several migrants fled the state following the arrest with 19-year-old Darwin Andres Gomez, 19-year-old Kelvin Servita Arocha, 21-year-old Wilson Juarez, and 24-year-old Yorman Reveron heading to California, as reported by Fox News.
One of the migrants engaged in the attack was caught showing off footage of the beatdown to others on the streets of Manhattan. The migrant was arrested yet again after throwing a cigarette on the street and getting in a verbal altercation with police.
