WATCH: President Trump Highlights The 'Savage Venezuelan Prison Gang' Terrorizing Colorado During Rally

On Friday, 45th President Donald Trump traveled to Aurora, Colorado, to highlight the issue of migrant crime after a violent Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, gained a foothold in the Denver suburb. Trump, who has been running on a tough-on-crime and border security agenda, spoke to the sold-out Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center, which saw supporters line up early in the morning to get seating.

"In Aurora, multiple apartment complexes have been taken over by the savage Venezuelan prison gang known as 'Tren de Aragua'—or as law enforcement calls them, 'T.D.A.,'" Trump told the crowd. "Last month, six men armed with rifles and handguns were caught on camera as they forced their way into an apartment building and threatened the tenant at gunpoint. Ten minutes later, they opened fire on a 25-year-old man outside the building, fatally shooting him. Of the barbaric thugs who have been identified, at least three are illegal aliens who were in Border Patrol custody but were ordered released into the United States by Kamala Harris."

President Trump's visit to Aurora comes after a video of armed gang members harassing residents in the Edge at the Lowry apartment complex in Aurora went viral last month. Aurora City Council Member Danielle Jurinsky sounded the alarm about the Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, taking over the complex. "We currently have entire complexes under gang control — complexes where staff have been beaten up, they've been threatened, their families have been threatened [and] complexes where there are no staff left on the property. These complexes are being run by this Tren de Aragua gang," Jurinsky told Fox News. "They start brokering apartments themselves when someone leaves out of fear or whatever. They go in and take pictures of the apartment themselves," she continued. "Then, I've been told, within hours, a Venezuelan family moves in. Parts of [Aurora] are under this gang control."

Tren De Aragua is the largest criminal organization in Venezuela, and it has over 5,000 members. Given the influx of migrants across the US-Mexico border and the instability of Venezuela after years of rule under Nicolas Maduro, it is no surprise that criminal gangs from the country have begun to get organized in the United States. Denver, a sanctuary city just next door to Aurora, has allowed tens of thousands of migrants to come to the area, which has stretched city resources to their limit.
