WATCH: President Trump Humiliates Bloomberg Chief During Interview On Economy - 'They've Been Wrong About Everything'

On Tuesday, 45th President Donald Trump traveled to the Economic Club of Chicago for an interview with Bloomberg News Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait. Throughout the interview, the Republican presidential candidate defended his economic proposals and routinely humiliated Micklethwait with hard-hitting responses. While President Trump took time out of the campaign to interview with Bloomberg, Vice President Kamala Harris refused to sit down with Micklethwait despite being invited.

When asked why voters should trust him on the economy, Trump explained that his economic agenda will focus on growth. "Because we're about growth. She's got no growth whatsoever, and we're all about growth. We're going to bring companies back to our country. Even today, as I was driving over, I saw these empty, old, beautiful steel mills and factories that were empty and falling down," Trump said. "We are going to bring the companies back. We're going to lower taxes further for companies that are going to make their product in the USA. We are going to protect those companies with small tariffs because I'm a big believer in tariffs."

"The higher the tariff, the more likely it is that the company will come into the United States and build a factory in the United States so it doesn't have to pay the tariff," he added. The Republican presidential candidate then focused on bilateral trade deals signed with various countries. "Stupid people made these deals. I saw trade deals that were so stupid that you'd have to be an idiot to sign them. And we signed them for years," Trump said. "They had to be corrupt to make those deals. There's no way a rational human being would ever sign the trade deals that this country signed. I got out of many of those deals."

President Trump also challenged the free market economic consensus around tariffs, criticizing the Wall Street Journal for its history of supporting policies that have offshored American manufacturing. "What does the Wall Street Journal know? I'm meeting with them tomorrow. What does the Wall Street Journal know? They've been wrong about everything. So have you, by the way," Trump said. "It's not a debate. You're wrong. You've been wrong all your life on this stuff."

The 45th president also criticized Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, explaining that he has "the greatest job" in the federal government. "You show up to the office once a month and say, 'Hmm, let's flip a coin.' And everyone talks about you like you're a God," Trump said, adding that Powell lowered rates too low when he threatened Powell with removal. "I think that if you're a very good president with good sense, I think you should be able to talk to him. I don't say make the decision but I've been a very successful businessman."
