WATCH: President Trump Sets The Record Straight On Covid, Fauci, And More With Megyn Kelly - 'We Did A Tremendous Job'

On Wednesday evening, conservative commentator Megyn Kelly released a lengthy segment of an interview she had with leading Republican presidential candidate and 45th President Donald Trump that is set to be fully released on Thursday.

The nine-minute segment covers a host of topics but primarily focuses on Trump's handling of the coronavirus pandemic in the last year of his presidency and the role that Dr. Anthony Fauci played in the policy-making and public relations process throughout 2020.

During the interview, Kelly pressed Trump on making Fauci "a star" by giving him the opportunity to headline pressers, going on media every day, and eventually the fact that Fauci received a presidential commendation on Trump's last day in office.

In response to the criticism, Trump said that he didn't know who gave Fauci a presidential commendation and that at the time, Fauci was a very respected figure. He did say that he regularly overrode Fauci's recommendations and allowed the governors to make their own choices about whether they should open up or lockdown.

Trump argued that he wasn't going to use the fact that Fauci was a civil servant as justification for not firing him, adding that he "wasn't a big fan of Fauci."

Trump took the opportunity to attack Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), arguing that he "shut down Florida" and that he "shut down the beaches. He shot down the roads. He shot down hospitals. He shut down everything... The guy tried to change history in Florida."

Trump argued that other states didn't shut down at all and when pressed by Kelly, Trump said that "he's not blaming anybody" for wanting to lockdown.

The interview then turned to Operation Warp Speed, the program that allowed for the quick development of a vaccine, which some have criticized for being rushed thus resulting in vaccine injuries. "Wouldn't you like a do-over on anything?" Kelly asked.

Trump responded by explaining that at the time "nobody had any idea" about how dangerous the virus was. He recounted various meetings that he had with White House experts where he saw hundreds of body bags in China from the virus.

"Nobody knew what Covid was," Trump said, adding that he took action to stop the transmission of the virus to the United States by blocking travel from China.

"I didn't demand anyone take [the vaccine]," Trump explained, adding that many Democrats think that Operation Warp Speed led to millions of lives being saved. Trump went on to tell Kelly that he did not push mandates on Americans and that it was up to each individual to decide whether or not they chose to get the vaccine.

"We did a tremendous job," Trump said towards the end of the segment. "And it's never...you know they appreciated what I did with the economy. I got a lot of good marks on the economy. I got a lot of good marks on a lot of things. Rebuilding the military, getting rid of ISIS, and the biggest tax cuts in history. I never got, I think, the credit I deserved on Covid."
